Just got one today and will attempt to fit it soon, does any one have any hints, tips or warnings i should look for?

Cheers,

Fraser.

Several members of the German Club have retrofitted the new grill and have reported no problems...
I will keep my old one..:) Easier to keep clean! (a tuning shop here in Germany reportedly now sells a "cleaned" grill without any Audi rings on it for around 90 €)

Bye, Frido.

Re 2004 grill: Will someone please tell me what is desirable about 'mucking about' with original A2 fittings or equipment as supplied, when this vehicle is sure to become a 'Classic' once they discontinue it (as reported in motoring press) It's surely the true spiritual successor to the original Issigonis Mini unlike the overblown fashion statement look-a-likes now produced by BMW (Tut- wash your mouth out!!) Its a bit like people who put Magnet Joinery 'Georgian' front doors (you know, the ones with the semi-circular window in the top of the door) into Victorian workers terraced houses. The original Georgian semi-circular FANLIGHT was in the place ABOVE the door to shed light into the (spacious) hallway behind : the door itself was always solid six-panel in the much-larger-than-workers Georgian town houses. Go to Bath sometime (in an A2) and observe . So be it with the A2 Mine stays with the plastic fold-down frontispiece, often commented on in filling stations for its ultra sensible ease of access for essentials; and certainly easier to keep clean than the grill on my new TT. SO THERE!

Come on, be adventurous! [24]

I think you can become "bored" with something and feel the need to renew it. Why else is there such a lively second-hand car market? It's not all fleet cars being sold off so early in their life.

But not everyone can afford to do this so they think of subtle ways to refresh their car by changing the wheels, getting a new stereo etc etc

I wonder how many of us have re-decorated when we don't really have to, bought a new TV or stereo, changed the sofa.....

Whoops, just realised how I worded my reply. My excuse is I have a cold and can't think straight. Nothing new there then!

Holly,

Sure why not, but for starters i'd like to see the new grill on a members car.

Has anyone seen the new "StandlichtRinge" or "AngelEyes", looks really nice:

To bad my precious is a company car, otherwise I would definetly install this !!

That's nice on the A2-how did you do it;)

Did you cut off a BMW nose and weld it to the front of your A2? WILD!!![:p]

:)

No, I don't want to degrade the quality of my Audi by adding inferior BMW parts.

It are actually small plexiglass tubes which are molded to fit inside the lamps.
Looks quite cool, I think !

I don't think I like the angel eyes, for the a2. Especially not in blue-ish light.

BUT, for those of you who want to swap the grill, I think you'd better read the second post on this page:
http://www.audi-a2club.de/thread.php?threadid=2225&sid=

It's German, but pass it through babelfish and you get the following (which should be just about clear enough):

--- start of babelfish translation--

Hello I already reequipped.
Disassembly:
1. Service flap
2nd hood decreases
3rd 2x socket-head cap screw 5mm opens opens
3rd old flap downward wegziwhen

New flap:
1. Problem: The new flap is screwed from the inside (the old from the outside).
2. With the old model the thread is in the engine flap. With the new in the owner the service flap. I rausgebort the rivet nuts/mothers in the owner of the new flap. Subsequently, the plastic wedges (are screwed on to the ends of the carriers) of the old flap rausgezogen and clean-put into the new flap. New flap put into the Mutorhaube. Screws attraction (with shortened Inbus). Hood against fastens. Hook adjusted. Finished! Duration approx. 50 min!

--- end of babelfish translation--

So you need to drill out some bits to get it to fit. Be warned, if you don't like DIY. (but then again, you wouldn't want to change your service flap if you weren't a DIY guy, would you? ;))

I've nearly always had an issue over the flush grille detail and think (subject to seeing the new one in the flesh) that the new grille is what the A2 always missed. For those who think it is unforgiveable to change the grille as it would alter the original car- if the grille is so easy to swap over, keep the old grille for refitting as and when if necessary, or regularly swap between the two for a laugh!

Oh- just saw the babel fish translation. Does the babelfish translation need fine tuning do you think? I'll wait until fitting instructions are posted on this site before going ahead.

If it needs tuning? In what way?
Of course it's crappy English, littered with some half German verbs, but I just wanted to show that it involved some more work than just unscrewing and switching.

Since I did not (and definately will not, because I don't like the grill) perform the procedure, I'm hesitant to freely translate it myself again.

Let's just add that it looks as though you need to drill out some bolt/nut on the NEW flap in order to make it 'compatible'. But once that is done, it seems easy. Maybe it helps if you look at the mechanism, which I haven't done.
Be adventurous! ;)
