New 6 speed gearbox method - passat '11 onwards MYP gearbox

Thanks Spike,
I managed to remove the fifth gear cover and gear selector shaft so far. Now I'll check the latest link you sent, at a glance it looks it deserves to be in HOW TO section, it's been done by someone with far more experience than me. I'm taking photos as I go along but this should be the guide to follow.

Cheers,

Boris

That preload method is a bit simpler then as you don't have to measure the rolling torque just the end float.

Simon.

Great info on TDI forum,
thanks Spike. I'm stuck at the moment as I don't have torx 60 to release fifth gear selector and I will have to get the gear pullers to carry on. Will get them on Tuesday.

Boris

Hi Simon,
I believe I can get the exact one, will find out on Tuesday. You're right about the puller, it's designed so it's less or no lateral force on the legs of it, than the three legged version.

Update,
Just managed to damage the head of a Torx 45 bolt behind fifth gear selector, as I was trying to release it. It's a drill out time I guess.

Hi,

After a lot of struggle with fifth gear synchro hub, I won. It's off now and the old 02J is in pieces finally.
The new MYP is scheduled for this weekend.
As I said before, I took photos and will do a write up once finished.

Regards,
Boris

It was a big struggle with fifth gear, I had to grind the puller several times as I
didn't want to weaken it more than necessary. As a result, I managed to damage
the synchro ring, so if anyone has a part number for it I will be grateful. It's 02J
from 2001 TDI GWQ or something similar.

Thanks,

Boris

Aww man! Maybe you can recoup some losses on the synchro ring hiring out your modified specialist puller for other aspiring 6 gearbox enthusiasts!

My 'to the point' style goes back to the days when I was a draughtsman (when they has drawing boards) Adding notes to the drawings was an art as they had to be unambiguous and exact as there was so little space on the drawings.
Besides, at home, I'm part of a team and my wife has a degree in waffling so we balance each other up nicely.

I also like the fact that you get stuck in and do stuff so am always happy to help out with a few relevant links

Oops, I've used up far too many words here.

Cheers Spike

Lol, team work is essential in any successful enterprise.
Last night I started dismantling MYP, but got stuck really quickly as the factory has changed from torx 60 to
M14 12 spline bolts for the fifth and sixth gears. Got one today and looking forward to cooler evening
Temperatures to carry on.

Thanks again Spike,

Boris

I hope you've got some waffles at hand:eek: as I need your help again. MYP is fair bit different so if there is a guide how to dismantle it, it will be a miracle. 5th-6th gear removal in particular.

Thanks in advance!

Boris

Boris,
You don't want to send some of that sun our way do you
bloody rain showers when you are trying to refit a front bumper is really really trying by patience :)
I should have done it in the garage but it was fine and dry when I started, no peeing it down !!!

Funny thing Paul,
What would I give for let's say a week of rain and cooler weather. The grass is always greener.....you know...
Hope you manage to fit it today.

I'm over the moon myself, I managed to remove 5-6 gear from my MYP and carried on dismantling. Now I'm resting as I put some penetrating oil on a stubborn bolt.

Ahhhhhhh, victory at last!

Both gearboxes in pieces and packed in small bags in plastic crates. Some new bearings next week, and reassembly begins.

On the left is EWQ and on the right MYP. Note the differences.
