Hi all,
would just like to say hello as I know I'm going to need your help!

Bought a 1.6 04 plate few weeks ago.. was owned by an older pensioner for last 11yrs but came with issues although only 58k on the clock. (split auxillary belt *fixed, air bag light, manifold valves sticking, damaged door wiring loom and a few scrapes) lol

I look forward to getting to know you all while I figure out how to keep this car alive for the next 10yrs +

I'm no mechanic unfortunately but think this is a keeper :)

Kelly

Welcome Kelly. Anything you want to know, just ask. If you want to find answers via Google, then prefix any questions with A2OC.... its easier than searching on the forum!
Probably worth stumping up £2 for full forum access, which includes the marketplace, from where you will undoubtedly want to buy things!

Welcome Kelly,
I've only got a 1.4 petrol that I bought last August, but a lot of other aspects are the same. Mine's been more of a project than I'd hoped, but I'm getting there. Good luck. There are a lot of knowledgeable people in the club. I've grown to love mine in spite of some frustrating times.?

I know where your coming from, I’ve only had mine for a couple of weeks, but your always finding ‘one more thing’ to do! Also unless you can do most things yourself, they can be expensive. But the cars are so rewarding and just like everyone says, you want another very quickly.

Hi Kelly,
Mie's a 2004 FSI too. When they are good, they're very very good ...
The only engine that was as innovative as the A2 itself. it is a bot finicky though (probably an understatement). You must use only 98/99 petrol (Shell Super Unleaded or Tesco Momentum). I uze only Shell V Power.
Good luck.
Mac.

Will It die if I alternate fills from asda and premium?

Hi Kelly and welcome to a fantastic forum and lots of helpful advice from helpful people (I’m also an FSI owner too).

The engine needs the higher octane rating for its quoted performance (I use momentum 99, shell thereafter) however the higher grade also keeps the internals working better for longer. The lower grade fuel will contribute to a more inefficient combustion which will result in carbon buildup and therefore sticking manifold flaps amongst other things.

The short answer is possibly but many FSI owners and myself are of the view that the nominal extra cost is worth it to delay/prevent future problems.

Enjoy as they are brilliant cars, I personally prefer the 1.6....... I would however owning one that’s is in very good health however might be of a different opinion if it was breaking down weekly. I’d stick to to premium fuels to answer the original question

An alternative is to use an additive on cheap petrol that will upgrade it’s octane and add the cleaning additives you get in super unleaded - my preference would be THIS ONE

Youll have to do the maths and work out whether it’s worth tipping a shot in the tank each time you fill up or not. I think it would be.

That is the sort of comment that could only be written by someone who doesn't yet own an FSI (or any other A2 for that matter). Even if Ecomax provided the full potential benefit of "up to 2 numbers"*, it still wouldn't get cheap petrol up to the required minimum of 98 Octane, let alone the 99 Octane that experience tells existing owners works best.

* dependent on original fuel quality

Kelly, the FSI is a specialised beast, and you'll have untold problems if you try to cheap out on petrol.

Kelly, you have a low mileage FSI, with only a couple of owners from new, so are very lucky. There's not many A2s on the road, and few of those are FSIs. A low mileage FSI, like yours, (and mine) is very rare indeed. Show it the luv (at the pump)!
Oh, get the coolant changed before winter.

PS; What colour, and spec is it (SE, Sport etc)

You can run it on 95 RON if you fit the Pro Boost remap. Its only pence worth of difference between normal and super unleaded though so I really don't see the point in causing issues further down the line for a minimal saving.
