New A2 owner here to say hi

Hello people

I'm now the proud owner of a 2002 1.4 SE A2. I have had the car a few days now and I am overall very impressed. The car does have some small niggles though as is expected with 140k miles on the clock, and I wondered if I could get some advice on them from more experienced owners:

The front wing has some scrapes on it, I've found a replacement for £40 on ebay, I'm guessing its fairly easy to replace?

One of the front discs was warped and they needed replacing, as well as the pads, £225 but money well spent I think so that's all good.

The buttons on the climate control and windows are really worn, common problem I've read, I have ordered some stickers to try and tidy them up as they are a detriment to what is otherwise a very nice cabin.

The engine management light is on due to what i'm told is an EGR valve issue. I was advised to try an additive when I had the brakes serviced to see if it will clean the system through, as I would really like to get that light off. Are any of the budget diagnostic readers worth the buy?

Upgrading the stereo unit seems to be quite challenging, I am getting a new head unit professionally installed but will have to do far more research for the speakers it seems.

I'm a bit of a tinkerer, are there any small things I can do to the car that can improve it?

Hi and welcome to the forum. Please would you indicate the spec of your car so members can advise you on what mods are available for your tinkering exercises :)

The best diagnostic device is the VCDS, or you can advise members where you are and if there's anyone nearby with VCDS they may be able to help.


What do you want to do to the stereo? I have a blaupunkt unit for sale (depends on your car head unit in there already) that is plug and play available. Look at my 'Sarge selling A2 parts thread'

OK sorry it's a 1.4i Petrol, SE model, Colour? (there is some parts available for sale on forum so this might be relevant :)) does it have a double din stereo or single din? do you have speakers in rear doors?

It is a single din unfortunately, although there is another slot underneath the climate control unit, I would have loved to install a double din unit but it seems far beyond my level of skill and confidence.

There are indeed speakers in the rear, 8 in total it seems including the fronts. The colour is silver (unsure of the exact name :p)

Hopefully you'll get on top of your A2's niggles soon enough and have many happy years together.

Are you based on the Isle of Portland? If so, I imagine it's a novel place to live. :)
