New A2 owner

Hi All,

Just a brief introduction, just over 10 days ago l brought a 1.4tdi 75 SE 02 plate A2. I have had many diesels before which have all given me grief and l promised never to touch one again. I have seen at work a few guys with these cars and they swear by them. after spending £300 a month on petrol with doing nearly 80 miles a day l decided to sell my mazda ts2 for one of these. I am now down to £35 a week fuel so just one fill up and averaging 62mpg so very happy. Being an ex mechanic as now moved to management l still like to tinker so in the time ive owned it l have flushed the brake fluid, cleaned up the drums and shoes, flushed the coolant as it was green and gone for the 5 yr protection using the red coolant, replaced the drivers check strap as that was broken, fitted a 28" aero wiper blade, adjusted the handbrake, washed, polished using a mop and checked everything over and greased the OSS.
Things to do since ive driven the A2 and found out some small issues, slow puncture and they are cheap tyres so will prob replace both fronts for decent makes, RH front wheel bearing already brought just got to fit at some point, tracking, Aux input to fit, prob replace full brake system as brakes are poor, give the cloth seats a good wet and dry vacuum, fit H.I.Ds, Led sidelights, possibly a better sound system, will be looking into alloys and prob bigger tyres, current are 185/50/16 and might go to 195/55/16 but will see as l dont want to ruin the look. Anyway l look forward to getting advice on how to keep these running better, what common faults they have and how to avoid plus buying parts cheap or from a reputable supplier. I would like to do alot to the car but over time as l am trying to save money but make my ride look nice and unique.

I have attached some pics but its a work in progress. I have been a member of a 406 coupe club for 4 years before (2007-2011) and nearly came 1st out of 100 406 cars at Beaulieu so hope to get the A2 in a similar condition.

Thanks Geoff, This is my 1st 3 cyl car and l was very negative towards 1.4tdis before but l am very happy with performance and mpg. I would love to own a much faster car but this will be great to commute as it will save me £££'s and l can see me keeping this nice runner for quite sometime. I only paid £2000 for it, 110k on the clock and its an 02 plate. i sold my mazda 6 ts2 05 plate with 108k with bose for £1850  but anyway..

cheers Matt

Hi Matt welcome to a2oc can i say one thing---why not join us at Audis in the park this coming sunday (10th august) at billing aquadrome in northampton-full details in the socials section. You will find that the A2 will "grow on you" the more you drive it. Also, it should keep its value too. The aluminium body is the BIG deal with this car.
Cheers, Geoff

Hi,

Welcome to the world of A2s. They are no McLaren but they do get under your skin.

The performance is a surprise in that it feels a lot quicker than the 0 to 60 figures indicate and so for a daily driver they are great.

Looking forward to hearing more from you as you start to get hooked on the car!!!

I plan on bringing the "project A2" to the car show at McLaren and so it would be great to talk A2s with you for a bit.

It looks like the Birchall family are responsible for quite a few new A2 owners, none of which have regretted that move at all.

Welcome
Steve B
