Hi I have just purchased my first A2. It's a 2001 1.4tdi se. I purchased it from a friend when the cambelt snapped and am in the process of repairing it to use as my daily driver.
I have found plenty of info in the forums and have found them very helpful.

Hi

Good luck with the repair and keep us all posted with pics if you can, I personally had a belt snap on my Passat B4 at 300k miles there was no damage whatsoever, I was told it was a non interference engine, not sure if the A2 is the same, although it is a scaled down 3 cylinder version of the 1896 VW tdi I believe but may be wrong with my info. I am sure you will get any help you may need right here.

I have yet to see an A2 escape damage from a belt snapping.

There seems to be plenty of interference!

The problem with the 1.4 petrol (such as the AUA engine) is that the valve stems are so thin, they really do look like wood nails.

The tdi valves are stronger but in a "Piston versus Valve" competition, they come a poor second.
