Hello
Found browsing the forum useful while we were deciding on the replacement of my wifes car.
I settled on the Mercedes A Class or the Audi A2.
Drove both today and found the Merc more unstable in crosswinds and the dash and fittings seemed a bit substandard aswell
The A2 was a Demo 1.4TDI Se at our local dealer.
Sure its a bit noisy at rest, but great economy and quiet once you are moving. Very nippy aswell.
The rear room in the LWB Merc is excellent but the lower rear floor is the Audi also makes a difference and I found the rear Audi seats much more comfortable aswell.
So we have bought a 5 month old car, azure blue, less than 5000 miles, standard SE trim + climate control, we collect it next Tuesday - nice surprise with the £80 road tax aswell.
Hopefully it will last us 5-6 years.
Hope the after sales service is as good as sales, but I doubt it somehow especially after looking through all the posts

Thanks for the site

Chris

Which Dealer did you buy from?

1.4SE petrol 2001, Dark interior, Sat cloth, Brilliant Silver, 3 spoke Steering wheel, Rear electric windows and Panasonic MR555 stereo, Panasonic 8CD changer, 10 speakers (2 extra 13" 190 watt each.)

1.4TDiSE 2002, Biege interior, Brilliant Black, Concert II.

Welcome to the forum chris !

Sometimes the stories on the forum are indeed a bit grim. I think that's because happy people seldom take the time to post their stories.
There are thousands of A2's sold and only the real fanatics (the A2-nauts) use the internet to discuss their precious car.

Keep us posted on your car and be sure to send some pictures to the owners website !

Cris I surely hope you enjoy your car as much as my wife and I do We also bought an ex demo car and have not regret it ever since.
Be happy in it:)
All the best Jeff *(yoyoman)

Welcome to the forum and I hope you enjoy your new motor. Did you get a good deal and how did you find dealer service?.

And as Dennis said, people will easilty complain about poor service/quality, but if you way up how many owners are out there it's probably less issues than you think. And a good dealer will make all the difference!.

Hello, thanks for the welcome
Got a reasonable deal
Traded in a clio 172 and saved about £850, (through some money off ticket price of the car and a better part exchange value for my old car).
With the part exchange I see you now have to sign to declare that it is not an import - not something I had to do last time I sold a car.
The salesman was new but very helpful - couldn,t do enough - long test drive, lots of coffee!, didn,t run down the other car (mercedes) I was looking at, certainly far more attentive than salesman I have bought from before.
Maybe the aftersales care will be good, but hopefully I wont need to use it much

LMAO, i'm sorry but errmmmm GL with aftersales, lol the spiel wove by the salesman is to get you in the door and part with your cash, audi aftersales at almost all dealers bar a few which are suposedly good, are absolutly crap. they absolutly ensist theres nothing wrong with the car then they have your car in a good 6 or 7 times before they decide actually maybe there is something wrong, they then take another couple of visists to actually get it fixed as they say its fixed and its not they just give it a good wash and thats it, hehe when your warrenty runs out is when they really sc!w ya, "hmmm i think this needs fixing, ...you know that problem you mentions several months back , well ermmm actuallly i think it really is a problem that will be a couple hundred pounds please".

Hi Chris,

Welcome to the forum. As Dennis mentioned, you do tend to find disgruntled owners are more vocal than us happy ones. I bought my A2 in Oct '01, have done 11500 miles and loved every minute. My dealer is superb. Even after the sale was done, and they had my money, they have continued to be attentive and welcoming for any queries I have had. I must add however my A2 has had none of the 'normal' problems you will read about on the forum, including the wiper blade saga. The only mishap in 12 months has been the rear seat not locking into place, but this was fixed immediately.

I hope you stick around the forum and let us know how you get on.

Cheers

Kaine
