New Emissions charge in London

Hi,

I've just been through the registration process. All I had to do was email them the V5C, which they've accepted. I didn't have to approach Audi for any further information. My A2 TDI 90 is now registered as meeting the emissions standards and no additional charges will apply.

From what I've observed, TfL are treating 'early adopters' on a case by case basis. So just because they've added my TDI 90 to their database doesn't mean that all TDI 90s will be added.

Oh ok, interesting that they allowed just a V5C. it clearly states V5 AND a letter. Will try this technique, a quick call to Audi uk and nobody there seems to have any idea regarding this topic.

Just out of curiosity not that I ever drive to London, I put my 2002 TDI 75 into the registration search and it came back that it was exempt.

Yes, my wife’s 75 came up as exempt too. Yet the 2003 FSI came up as not exempt.
So much for diesels being the polluters.

Whatever happens in 2019 the rules tighten a lot further and as far as I can tell no A2 will be exempt then.

One bus or one taxi belches out as much black smoke as ten A2s. But they are not disappearing yet.

This is very confusing. I just put my 2004 A2 TDi 75 in and it is not exempt. How come?

It seems so "hit and miss"

Is yours the AMF engine, different engine codes have different euro ratings sometimes.

That might be because it wasn't obligatory to put the emission values on the CoC until 2006. But VW (and presumably Audi) were doing this in 1999 and probably earlier. I think you'll find that all the A2 diesels with coolant cooled EGR meet the Euro IV emission standards and therefore qualify.

Ah well, just done my silver 75TDI on a 55 plate.

Thank you for using the T-Charge checker. Your vehicle is subject to the T-Charge if you travel in the central London Congestion Charge zone Monday to Friday between 7am to 6pm, you will be charged £10 a day. This will be in addition to the Congestion Charge.

And the green one

I never thought the green one was a TDI sport, you learn something new everyday....lol

I tried the registrations of six 2002 TDI 75's on Autotrader and two were exempt and four not. Best thing is classics seem to be coming up as exempt so my Mk1 Golf GTI is exempt despite the fact that you need breathing apparatus if you reverse it into the garage!

I don't know, but as it was one of the last ones made I had always assumed it was EU4.

Should be EU4 John . Checked my ATL out of curiosity and it's exempt. So next time I'm dann saff I can run around the big toon without charges . If I wanted to. Which I probably don't. Okay I'll get my coat.

everything registered from early 2005 onwards *had* to have Euro IV. The only engine that does not is the AMF, so pre 2003 TDI 75s.

but our late 2003 75 (AMF) came up as exempt !!!

it is totally random.

Now Murdo’s ATL is coming up exempt but my ATL is showing that it is not exempt.

We could almost get all of our results together, showing that they don’t make sense and let TFL explain why.

Cars of the same model year and engine code should surely all be exempt or all be caught.

That doesn’t seem to be the case.
Im my case it was even weirder because I checked with my 2094 TDI 90 ATL and it was exempt.

I have just rechecked and the same car is showing as not exempt (the only change was a few months back we swapped the reg number, but in both cases it had been updated to show the TDI 90 on the results of the check)

My 2003 FSI Sport is Not exempt from the T-Charge but is exempt from the Ultra Low Emission Zone.... Makes perfect sense!!

I've just checked my wife's MB A140 auto, which is Euro 3. Guess what, it's down as compliant and can be driven into the congestion charging zone without having to pay the T-charge.

As mentioned before, the TfL database is woefully inaccurate.

The actual rules are very straightforward - if you have a Euro 4 or later car, you’re (currently) not going to be further taxed to drive in the zone.

Some Euro 3 models (not many!) have emission levels that are under the Euro 4 limits and therefore meet the requirements.

I agree, some like the A2 are classified as 'early adopters' but not a 2002 A140 auto - Parkers has it, correctly, as Euro 3.
