I thought of you this morning when I saw an 800 Coupe in the same red as your Fastback. V474NEO, if you know of it. Encountered on the B489/B488 junction just outside Ivinghoe.
So, my cable arrived, I downloaded VCDS-Lite from Ross-Tech, plugged in, and it read from Port 4.You can download the Lite version free from Ross-Tech website. Don't get the software from anywhere other than Ross-Tech. KKL cable under £10 on eBay.
The Lite version can be licensed, (well worth it), for $99.
Mac.

Then it said my software wasn't registered. Have I missed something?

I would clear the errors and see what returns, some may be intermittent if you are luckyYes, done that. Miss fire, Nox, and others
Cleared the codes, started car, no EML. Its not on the road yet, so will see what happens.I would clear the errors and see what returns, some may be intermittent if you are lucky

I don't think you have missed anything just not paid the $99 registration fee. You have the free download which is designed to be limited and a pain to use, such as as giving you the description of the first fault only, the rest you have to look up. Pay the $99 and the shareware messages will go away with more functionality, your choice. So, my cable arrived, I downloaded VCDS-Lite from Ross-Tech, plugged in, and it read from Port 4.

VCDS Lite, free or registered, only works on vehicles upto 2006 model year. If you want the version that supports more up to date models, as well as your A2, then you'll need the current version, all information, and prices are shown on the Ross-Tech website, along with the number of vehicles you can use it on. If you intend to keep your A2, I'd pay the $99.Ahhh. I may just pay the money. Not decided yet.... speak to neighbours and brother who have VAG cars too
