Hi Stan, welcome aboard :) and thanks for the tip. They seem to be plastics people whereas the badges are done in a metal alloy, but it might be worth us talking to them in the future should we expand the range.
Hi Profound.
As I'm new is there an area on here with any guidance or instructions?
I don't have an A2 but over the years had an Audi 80, A6 and currently an A4 Avant all TDI's and had a Fabia estate TDI which looks like it shared many of its parts with the A2.
Is there someone close to Blackpool or Lytham, St Anne's in the a2oc? As has much as I have always fancied an A2 I've never been in one.
My work is moving closer to where I live in the next 9 months and I won't need the Honda CRV. The country roads flood quite a bit near where I work do an A2 at the moment would be asking for trouble.
If you can point me in the best direction that would be a real help.
On a side note once Covid is out the way there are many meets in Blackpool that Ride the Lights. Honda Goldwings, Tow trucks & Breakdowns vehicles and a classic car on the bank holiday Monday in Stanley park.
Regards Stan

Cheers. Paul,
Thanks for the contact. I don't see many A2 about but there is one on Leach lane in St Anne's. I'm on Common Edge on the other side of the airport. What A2 have you got, petrol or TDI?
After having a Skoda Fabia I'm pretty familiar with the brakes & suspension, pretty much changed all of it & it looks much like the A2 set up.
Cheers Stan.

Hi Stan,

If you mean forum guidance, there isn't really anything other than the forum rules, which can easily be summarized as "basically, just be nice". In terms of what should be posted where, you'll pick it up soon enough and I can move anything that's out of place.

If you're looking for a buying guide, there probably have been plenty of things written but not stored in any meaningful way under an appropriate heading. The site search facility isn't very good (and doesn't look at any words shorter than 4 letters) so it's easier to use Google, just include "A2OC" in your search. You could always post a thread asking for things to look for, everyone on here is friendly and happy to chip in with opinions :) You're probably a way off needing it yet but there's an index of how-to information for common A2 jobs which is linked at the top of the home page.

In terms of A2's local to you, there is a very active and hands-on member in St.Annes who does a lot of refurbishment and manufacturing in 3D print and CNC metal. Why not introduce yourself to him - @depronman - hover over this mention of his name and you'll get a pop-up with a link to start a conversation. Slightly further afield, @timmus the electrical guru is in Lancaster, but often very busy. @RZX is also near there, she had four A2's at one point but is now down to two.

While I've been writing this I see that @depronman and @RZX have replied to you. If you don't mind, I'm going to move your post and all the subsequent replies to a new thread in the Introductions section.

I’m also glad to help out. I’m near Lancaster and I work on A2s almost every day of my life, so it’s fair to say I know them well.

Cheers,

Tom

Slight correction Ian, I am back up to 3 A2's as of last week ?.
Always happy to help any potential A2 owner. I will contact Stan but obviously Paul is the nearest with current restrictions.

Hi Stan
I am in Carnforth and currently own 1.4, 1.6 petrol and 1.4 Tdi. With varying degrees of extras, some added by the great guru @timmus. Happy to show you any of my cars if it's any help.

Hi Mandy,
Thanks for the reply, admired th A2s since I first saw one in the early 2000. Never been in one or looked around one as yet.
Would like to find a TDI perhaps with Bose (rare?)
Good seats but not necessarily leather.
Could always change then out though not too bad on the tools but u/s with electrics.
Regards,
Stan

That'll be Paul's one you've seen then :) Lucky you, right in his back yard!

It's about 2-3 miles from me. There was two on the drive at one time. Funny enough a light blue TDI had just turned up at my next door neighbours, never seen it before. Just checked the reg on the .gov not has 110K on it.

I have a crystal blue tdi but it's not me ?.
I am sure there are members in Thornton Cleveleys and Fleetwood but I can't remember their sign on names.
I am sure it won't be long before you get the bug ?

Hi Paul,

I think I read somewhere that the original 75 bhp gearbox is not to happy once you get to 90 bhp and above.
I'll have to pop round once the Covid restrictions settle down if you don't mind.
I'm of an age were I've had my first jab so onwards & upwards?.
The A4 I have is 130bhp and a nice balance between power and fuel economy, the Fabia with 100bhp was OK but a bit of a struggle on a hill fully loaded, AVE 56 mpg though.
I would imagine 108bhp and the lightweight should be a good change. Any issues with the egr delete? Are the ones with leather seats heated?
Ive seen a guy in Bristol (M James) who seems to have lots for sale on Auto trader.

Hi Stan,

The A2 was available with two styles of front seats: standard and Sport.
Sport seats are marginally wider, and have deeper side and base bolsters. I'd say that you sit 'on' standard seats whereas you sit 'in' Sport seats ...although Sport seats are nowhere near bucket seats.

Each type of seat was available with three upgrades: leather covers, electrically adjustable lumbar support and seat heating. These options are all independent of each other; having one of these options never implies that another is included.
To many people's minds, heated leather Sport seats with electrically adjustable lumbar support are the ultimate A2 seats.

It's worth noting that Sport seats from 2002 onwards always include electrically adjustable lumbar support.

The thread linked below gives a good overview of the A2 upgrade services that I offer. Apart from OpenSky and climate control, I can retrofit any of the original options to factory standard. Many people prefer to buy their A2 based on mileage, condition and history and then have me add the important options rather than buying a substandard car with the options they'd like.

Kind regards,

Tom

Hi Tom,

Thanks for the info, gives me food for thought.
Having had the Fabia I know what you mean by sitting on rather than in.

the original gearbox is fine upto 108bhp with 245nm torque the gearbox is rated to 250Nm so getting close
the meain issue is the gearing is rather low especially with a remapped engine, plus thrid gear is weak on the syncros so there are a few drop in replacements in both 5 and 6 speed form
the 6 speed boxes are upwards of £500 plus fitting and a clutch whilst your in there, the 5 speed offering is a LOT cheaper and provides the same overall ration but over 5 cogs instead of 6 cogs
The remap TDI as no problem with the longer gearing, and produces a really refinded motorway speed cruising vehicle as well as being a sweeter gearbox to use with a shorter shift and much lighter feel than the original box

Your most welcome to pop around, I also get my first jab this week

Cheers,
Paul

Hi Paul,
Thanks, the A4 is a five speed box and the Honda CRV is 6 speed, much prefer the 5 speed.
I use to be a fitter and test driver in research & development at Leyland trucks in a former life,
16 speed gearboxes some with ceramic clutches, they were like a switch either on or off no feel.
Tom (Lancaster) has been in touch with all the work he can do and info on seat types.
I'll take you up on the look over when we get back to a near normal.
Regards,
Stan
