New Member, no A2 yet! FSI??

Hi all, new member in Plymouth, looking at getting an A2 soon, I've seen an FSi that has 90k part service history and a belt change in 2012 at 60k, I'll have to factor in a belt change soon as it's well overdue, is it a diy job? I've done cambelts before on volvo's!

Careful assessment is essential before buying an FSI. There's a lot that can go wrong; more so than any other A2 variant. Just a read through this current thread:

will give you an idea of some of the pitfalls that potentially await.

A well-sorted FSI is a fabulous machine, just make sure you buy a good one.

Thanks Steve, I'll check that out, they guy wants £600 for what looks like a well looked after car bar the lack of full service history, local specialist will do the all belts and water pump for £540 all in!

Welcome to the forum :)

I’m currently selling a FSI see details below

All known FSI issues are sorted and it’s a very good FSI with full Audi service history:)

Not trying to put you off but personally if I was buying a FSI I would want full service history as that shows they have been well looked after

As many people have said the FSI is a very fun machine when working but if things go wrong it tends to be very expensive as I’ve experienced lately

since December last year I’ve spent £2500 on my FSI:)

Also the FSI will only run well on 99 octane fuel (shell v power)

It would be a big advantage if you can get the car scanned before you decide. Some problems only show up on a scan, and warning lights, (EML particularly) have been known to be "disabled"
Maybe an A2OC member, who's not too far away, can help?
Check with the seller, that a pre sale scan is OK, and avoid if the answer is no.
Never know, he may even have VCDS (the VAG scan software tool).
Good FSIs are wonderful cars. Best of Breed, in my (not so humble) opinion. But, they are fussy (Super Unleaded 98/99 octane only) and a bit highly strung! So, not the most budget friendly A2, but definitely the most fun to drive!

Louis,
Why not include a VCDS Scan (attach it as a txt file perhaps) in your ad?
It would give potential buyers confidence in the car, and you.
Just a thought ...

Thanks for all your interesting responses, the guy has an obd2 scanner and the only code returned is P0404 exhaust gas recirculation? body is very good only a couple of stone chip size spots, interior looks like new! engine sounds a bit 'busy' compared to my 2.3 volvo but seems to go well enough! Big issue is lack of recent service history and long overdue cambelt pointing to a bit of neglect? I may look into that further with the guy but equally may walk away!

Look up the MoT History too, that gives you an idea of how it's been cared for, and the annual usage pattern.

Thanks Louis, tempted but will be keeping it local!
Mac, yes I've checked the mot history and it looks good, only one failure and that was last year, but folk have moved the car on quite quickly over the years, 6 previous owners! Bit of vibration through the pedals in first and second, is that normal?

Vibration through the pedals in first and second gear is not normal

personally I’d give this FSI A MISS

How many miles is on it if you don’t mind me asking ?

Hi bud that’s a good idea :)

I won’t put it in the ad but anyone interested in the car is more than welcome to plug VCDS into it as I have nothing to hide?

Hi, welcome.

Instinct tells me something is not right, - fully sorted 90k FSI in good nick should fetch lot more than £600, but with the EGR fault declared and no FSH maybe the price is not ridicous. Have a VCDS scan, post it here, before deciding, cheaper scanners do not show everything. My FSI has no vibration in pedals, that is very worrying.

Boris once had vibration in he’s pedals and that’s because the clutch was toasted :)

Same here, no pedal vibes on mine.
The pedals don't have a direct mechanical connection (OK, an hydraulic pipe, but... ) to anything other than the floor pan/bulkhead. Accelerator is wire. So, those vibes are probably not good ones. Six previous owners is not a good sign either. They all sold it for a reason.
Best keep looking, and if you want a tidy FSI, up the budget. Louis's car is about the minimum for a private sale, I reckon. Add at least £500 for a bona fide trader, where you have some right of redress.
Sign up for the A2OC Market (£2), and look for an A2OC member's car perhaps?

I agree with Andrew, your pedals should not vibrate.
I feel a slight modulation in my brake pedal under hard braking, and it is due to some uneven rust patches on my "not-regularly-used-salt-exposed" brake discs, otherwise NO vibration.
