New Member with 75 TDi fifth gear on his knee!

I'm quite good at building race winning porsche chassis and engines but havent a clue about A2s! ....I have looked and looked but cant find any info on where to buy long 5th gear - could someone please point me in the right direction?

Took the box out because of what seemed like noisy diff - no obvious signs of cause; looks ok for 130k km. Front wheels off the ground, speed reading 90mph in fifth, into neutral, cut engine then frown as whiiring sounds all the way down to about 20mph. I'm fairly sure its not wheel brgs (no play in brgs and no change in sound when turning left or right). Any ideas?

So thats why I'm after a longer fifth; while I've got the box out thought I might as well prep it more power... any help inb finding good supplier of long fifth gears greatly appreciated!

Hi James,

I have a 0.659 longer 5th for sale, if you're interested. It's by far the most common choice of the available longer 5ths.
It was installed in my car for roughly 2 years, but was recently removed because I've had the gearbox converted to a 6-speed.
It's in perfect condition, with no sign of wear to the synchro teeth, as the photo shows. It comes with all the other little bits and pieces needed.

I've also got 2 litres of brand new, latest-spec BlueMotion gearbox oil for sale.

Cheers,

Tom

Phil this could be just the thing, thank you for the offer. How many pounds would you like?
I'm in Suffolk and London - are you by chance near either?

Thank you Mike, I do like the idea of a six speed (and may well go down that route some day), but not as much as the thought of an auto - has anyone found one that suits?

I'm guessing you meant Tom. :)
If you look in the grey bar at the top of my posts, on the right-hand-side, you'll see my location. I'm in Lancaster in the North West, but postage is possible. I'll send you a private message, which you can read by looking at your notifications at the very very top of the page.

Cheers,

Tom

I suspect if you want an auto the answer is you bought the wrong car! VAG never mated the 1.4tdi to an auto box in any car. The nearest will be the box fitted to the 1.2TDi '3L' A2 and I suspect the cost of installing that in an A2 1.4 TDi will be astronomical even assuming it can be done.

Thanks Adrian, yes I was thinking about the 1.2 box, but as you point out that would involve much fiddling.

I'm a big fan of the A2 and fairly persistent so might get round to an auto solution some day.
