Hi everyone

I have bought a 2002 A2 fsi today, after admiring them for many years. Finally they have fallen within reach of my meagre budget, so I was chuffed to bits to finally get behind the wheel. I was very pleased with how it drove on the return journey but unfortunately the oil sensor warning light (yellow) came on after about 30 miles, went off after a fuel stop, but seems to be on permanently now. Last owner says it flashed on in his ownership but never stayed lit, and puts this down to the car sitting around since he replaced it. Could anybody tell me if this this a common problem, perhaps an issue with a sensor or have I possibly bought a pup?
Sorry if this is in the wrong list.

welcome, great forum as I'm sure you'll find out, try the search feature as a start, I take it you have done the obvious and checked the oil level on the dipstick.

Welcome to the best A2 site there is. Nice to see that yet another Essex resident has bought an A2. Post us some pictures please!! I am sure you will enjoy many happy miles driving her (after treating her to a full service and a bit of TLC ;) ) See you out there somewhere sometime.
Drew.

Hmm. Car passed it's mot this afternoon, emissions were a struggle, which may explain the 'flat spot' the car has, it is sluggish at low revs, then takes off as though another coil has kicked in..... perhaps it has?
Other than a number plate lamp being u/s that was it, so a pass was obtained, happy days!
Then after popping into the motor factors for a price on a coil and MAF, the front brake started to squeal, or so I thought. Then the noise got louder, and I wondered if a stone had got behind the brake backplate. No such luck, now I am wondering if the driveshaft or even gearbox is breaking up. Has anybody else had a similar experience? Are these cars prone to a d'shaftjoint or a gearbox? To be fair to the car, it has covered 123k in the hands of 9(!!) different owners and was, I thought, very cheap....!

Possibly could also be a wheel bearing? (I had one seize once, on a Volvo, and it was a scary experience).

Does the sound change under braking?
Does the sound change when you are rolling in neutral?
Are the wheels getting very hot (if you put your hand near the wheelnuts?)

Slightly sheepish but also glad to say the horrendous noise WAS nothing more serious than a piece of road gravel stuck behind the backplate, hiding down by the balljoint in the dark, and playing a merry tune on the disc. I must have been nervous and fearing the worst with a new cheap car!
Glad I found the stone before my mechanic arrived....
I've done a couple of hundred miles in the car now, and enjoying it more everyday.

Hi fellow essex a2er--to help with the flat spot and to get max economy run the FSI on high octane fuel, i find Tesco momentum my cars favourite tipple. It would be great to see you at a social so keep an eye on the socials section. The biggest one is in August AUDIS IN THE PARK. Cheers mike
