Hi everyone, I bought my first A2 last week and have been enjoying getting to know it, and have already found some useful information on this excellent site.
My car is a 2003 1.6 FSI SE in ebony with a beige leather interior, and has done just over 100,000 miles. It's got some other great options - Sat Nav, DIS, climate control, space saver spare wheel and the all-important twin illuminated vanity mirrors!
I was a bit concerned when I was told by the previous owner that the head gasket had been done last year - is this engine prone to head gasket failure? It seems fine now, I'm hoping it was just an isolated incident due to loss of coolant or something like that.
The only fault I've found at the moment is one of the rear seats won't fold down - I've found the thread on here 'everything you wanted to know about seat faults' or whatever it's called and I have spent some time jumping up and down on it and shaking it from side to side but to no avail so far, I'll keep trying. I am also a little concerned to find that there is a row of holes along the top of the front bumper that look as though they should be attached to something but are not, that needs investigating further.
The A2 was bought as a baby brother to my 2005 S4 cabriolet (with the lovely 4.2 litre V8 engine) in sprint blue, which has only done 70,000 miles and I wanted to stop putting so many miles on it as I see it as a future classic. Maybe the A2 is achieving classic status too. In one of those weird coincidences I have discovered that both my Audi's were supplied new by Loders Audi in Yeovil, what are the chances of that!
I'm going to try to attach a couple of pictures of the A2 if the site will let me.

Welcome to the forum. There is a wealth of information and a great social scene if this is your thing. Be great to see you and your car at an event or two.

The FSI is a delicate engine, so it doesn’t surprise me if it has needed some work undertaken in its 100k journey. It is a lovely fit in the A2 when running well mind. As for the holes, I’m guessing the bumper may have been off at some point and you are missing some trim clips. If the holes are between the headlights, visible with the bonnet removed, then this is the case. One of mine visible below for reference.

What a lovely looking A2---nice to have the rare 5 spoke alloys. Just remember to feed it high octane fuel such as tesco momentum and also give it a good italian tune up every now and again to keep it clean. Why not come and show it off at our socials ? cheers mike and yvonne

Thanks for the welcome, I am using high octane fuel and giving some revs now and again, it seems to thrive on it.
Darren, your photo does show what I was talking about, does the clip attach the bumper to an aluminium cross member? I don't appear to have that cross member, so nothing for the clip to attach to. Clearly needs further investigation.

Yes it does, the trim pins go through the bumper and spread out inside an aluminium bar. I don’t believe this is the front reinforcing bar, but is a separate one designed to hold the bumper firm. If that isn’t present it certainly needs investigating as you say, not least to confirm that the front reinforcing bar is in place.

Welcome, as you have already found out, the group is very friendly and full of useful information and guidance. Never be afraid to ask a question or just join n a conversation.
