New Owner from Devon

Hi , I have just become the new owner of a Low mileage A2 TDI(2001) and like any new proud owner I'm trying to sort those nice cosmetic bits so I wonder if anyone can help. I had one broken wheel hub centre cap and then another appears to have gone missing on a trip to Cardiff. The part number is 8Z0.601.165F but Audi are asking £26 for one so that seemed a bit steep so I wondered if there are any other compatible ones I could look out for? I also have 2 X 3 button keys but these do not appear to work the central locking even though I have tried the syncing procedure....I have seen someone on ebay that takes the old key and replaces the circuit board for £30 so I wondered if this would be ok..although I appreciate it still will need programming on a vag computer. I would appreciate any ideas on these things..Thanks Pete

Hi,

Your keys may either have flat batteries or just need pairing properly. By the "synching procedure" what do you mean, there are several ways of doing this. The easiest way to pair a key that used to work is to just put it into the ignition, turn on the ignition and press the lock and unlock buttons a few times. But make sure you have good batteries in them first.
I would be VERY surprised if both keys are broken and need new circuit boards!

If they have genuinely worked on this car in the past then it is likely to be batteries.

and WELCOME !!!!

Hi,

I think Steve is right. I am also a new owner and one of my keys didn't work.

I put a new battery in and synchd as above and it is now fine.

Hi,
Thanks yes I did replace the batteries in both fobs...then I turned the ignition to on and with the other key I unlocked and locked the door then tried pressing the remote buttons on the key in the door. I did this by trying switching round the keys but nothing worked so may be its an issue in the car.

Another query is I think I will do the basic servicing myself as I'm quite DIY handy so basic oil change, air filter, oil filter etc should be quite simple...but my question is this, The under tray removal has some fixings I believe in the wheel arch should I undo these before putting car on ramps or can you get to them all underneath?

I have NEVER managed to get that process to work.

As I said just turn the ignition on and press the lock and unlock on the key that is in the ignition. That works every time for me (as long as the keys have been paired in the past)
