Evening all,

Recently picked up an 02 plate TDI for a reasonable sum, took a bit of a gamble as I was isolating at the time and purchased blind but at the price point I don't think I did too badly.

I was made aware of a few issues but as always these things need to be taken with a pinch of salt.

I've got a reasonable amount of experience working on cars having worked for BMW and a VAG specialist but the model specific information I've already found here has been a real hand.

You all seem a great bunch and it's nice to see a forum that's still as active as a fair few seem to of moved over to Facebook and have become very quiet. Look forward to some meets and shows post lockdown.

Cheers

Tom

Welcome Tom. Beware these A2's are addictive, and get lonely on their own!
You'll find lots of info here and advice is freely given.

Yes, roll on meets, when we can get together safely.

Thank you and yes I can see why I've been fairly busy already and using little bits from the forum to get things on track.

So far I've managed a new NS Driveshaft, front drop links, rear engine mount, auxillary tensioner, rerouted vac lines and installed the missing boost pressure sensor, oil cooler lower and upper seals, I removed the EGR valve today and will be addressing this over the next day or so.

I've got an abs loom on its way and the handbrake needs investigating as well as the downpipe fixing and an exhaust installing but she should be MOT ready following these jobs.

Does the OSS work? You may be interested in the thread thats running at present about OSS.
No I think the motor runs but the roof doesn't seem to do much. It isn't something I've gone into, I did however see the thread about the machine mount for the the OSS motor which I have expressed interest in. Until the headlining has been removed and I've had a real look it's a little hard to say.

Let’s us know if you need a hand, we are only in Staines, 30 mins from you.

Ian
Thank you it's supposed to get me through a rather rough period so I've accepted the roof may not be repaired in the immediate future but I guess with your knowledge you may have a better clue as to where I stand.

I am a little worried about leaks due to some staining on the headlining but haven't noticed any issues throughout the heavy rain and snow which is positive but I need to keep an eye on it.

Welcome, I myself joined a few weeks ago and I can highly recommend this place. I came here with the intention of selling my car and that has now changed into keeping it and even upgrading it. Indeed very addictive ?

Haha a great example ? thanks and I can see the bug catching the list has grown considerably for me already. What have you managed so far?

I added an extra earth cable in the engine, ordered heated mirrors and the false boot floor to install, ordered two new LHD headlights as I will be moving to Italy in the near future and looking to take the car with me. I am also looking to fit in a Sony magnetic holder in order to install an old xperia mobile phone or small tablet as a satnav and entertainment system. Also looking to upgrade to a six-gear box and possibly even the remap of the engine.

Tom, I'm also in Reading, hoping to get my own A2 this week........stay in touch as dont see many about in our neck of the woods

I'm by junction 14 of the M4 and have VCDS if you ever need a scan,..... when its allowed :)
Perfect I'm just by Newbury so not far at all Ive got a few jobs to do before she's MOT ready but not too much now. Maybe we can arrange a local get together when things allow.

Thank you VCDS could be handy at some point I use a small obd scanner for basic fault diagnosis but I know that i probably need to bite the VCDS bullet at some point.

And I'm only in Staines with VCDS also.
Thank you. it definitely looks like we could have an A2 get together along the M4 corridor post Covid and it's great to have some members locally.

Can anyone recommend any garages knowledgeable and local enough. Im a little stuck on the abs harness replacement as I don't have an original harness on the car to follow to the ECU so am working completely blindly.

I can recommend an A2 specialist in Hounslow - straight down the M4. If interested pls drop me a PM and I will reply with the details.

Hi Tom,

By harness do you mean the wiring loom? Which?

If so, look at our A2 parts bible (bookmak/add to favorites) to find the part number is a start, report back.
