Chat New Owner: Red 1.4 petrol - Ware?

Hello, I bought a 02 1.4 se. It seems to drive ok, I think. The interior is lovely. It's done 85k so I changed the oil and cam belt last week in hope it will last a bit longer.
Sadly a light called EPC has come on :-(. Everything seems to still be working ok. I hope that it's nothing to serious.
I'd like to say thanks for great club. I've already used advice to fix the wiper blade.
Happy dayz

Regards, Ian

Welcome.

First thing to check is that your brake lights are working (strangely enough). If the switch packs in or becomes intermittent it can trigger this warning, basically because the ABS system senses the car slowing down without the brakes being applied (because it has not sensed the brake pedal being depressed.)

Possibly not the cause in your case but worth checking.

Welcome mate!

As Steve has already said this is a known fault that can show up so definitely worth a check...
Ha you in Ware eh, I'm just 15 minutes down the road from you! :)

Hello Steve B & Crazy legs,
Thanks for the reply and tips. The brake lights appear to work last I saw the reflection in the house window yesterday.
I'll search through the forums if it's a known fault there must be a guide to fixing the switch! I might try myself depending what they say. Perhaps I should get a garage to check.
I used a helpful VW Audi place in Woodford. D'you know anywhere else
near there or Ware please?

Hi Ian and welcome. I also own a 1.4 petrol SE. Clearly not as revered as the TDIs but in my biased opinion, lovely cars all the same. Mine has done over 200k and it (and I say this sincerely) runs like 80k car. Starts every time, quiet, smooth and composed on the open road. As long as you service them regularly, including your cambelt changes (I've done 2) you'll hopefully have a car that'll give you years of pleasure. Good luck.
