Ex New Beetle

Hi people, big week ahead. Gotta say goodbye to my New Beetle that I have owned for 3 years, and hello to my new A2.

Buying a 1.4 SE , X reg, with only 8000 miles on the clock. Silver and normal SE spec plus electric rear windows.

Really hurting to lose the Bug, but i can't fit my mams wheelchair in the back without putting the seats down, and Chip my chocolate labrador won't fit in the hatch. Plus the 20 odd to the gallon is killin me!

So what should I look out for in my new A2? I really like the nippy 1.4 petrol. I so wanted to like the 1.4Tdi but it just sounded so rough town driving when accalerating etc. The revvy 1.4 petrol just seemed so much more refined. In fact could hardly hear it until about 4000rpm.

Anyway Just wanted to introduce myself and hope to post regularly onhere, as I was an avid member of www.newbeetle.org.uk

will post pics of car next week when I get it.

PS Payed £9500 from Audi Dealer for X reg silver 1.4 SE with 8500 miles, mint condition. Is this deal ok?

Hi Ex New Beetle (unique forum name)

Welcome to the forum. Glad to hear you choose the A2, as it really is a great little car. I have never driven the petrol, however believe it to be excellent. Other petrol owners can say more on this.
Interesting to hear you can fit a wheelchair in the back of the A2 without putting the seats down. It really is a tardis. Does it go in easily?

Cheers

Kaine

Hi there.

Glad to see you've seen the merits of the A2 and decided to take the plunge. Ours was/will be a 1.4 petrol and I have to agree that the engine is remarkably quiet at tickover and low revs, yet it has plenty of power when needed.

You may have seen this already but you can apparently get 23.5 cases of beer in the boot of an A2. Another good reason to buy!

A very poorly A2 at present! :(

Welcome-hope you enjoy your A2 when you start driving her.

What was the engine in your beetle to be getting such low MPG?.

Thanks for the replies people, you have made me feel welcome here allready[24]

The wheelchair fits straight in the boot no problem, had the false floor out but intend on never having it in anyway for the dog.

The beetle is the 2.0 manual, its an old engine that VW still use in the beetle and golf GTi, also still in the cabriolet! The aero dynamics of the beetle are not exactly good when it comes to MPG and the gearbox is geared strangely, the ratio's are great for making quick progress, but RPM are way too high on the motorway.

Welcome you may find my Pics of use for carrying the dog, European owners no 26. I think that if there is enough interest I will buy a few of these dog covers for members from Tchibo, The price varies a bit but is normally about 10% of the price in doggie mags. ( not a misprint 10%OF, not OFF! problem is Tchibo don't always have them.

Well heres a pic of my new car, looking forward to picking it up sometime this week.

Cheers Mal, I see that holly travels on the back seat, Chip is gonna be in the hatchback for sure. One of the reasons the beetle is going. Do any of you know of a dog guard for the A2? (I have asked this in the parts forum too)

Have you had any experiene of the new beetle cabriolet? Im thinking about getting one.

Cheers

To be honest I know a few people with them. The clever money would wait until either the 1.9 tdi or the 1.8t versions are released as the 1.6 and 2.0 engines offered now are really not that hot.

Welcome to A2OC. I hope you enjoy your new A2. I'm on my second now and I love them to bits!
