New TDI loses power

Hello fellow A2ers,

Can I pick your knowledgeable brains please.

I picked up my new to me A2 TDI today - driving home the 20 miles from the dealer was a joy, great performance and lovely feeling in the cabin, very refined. Just about to pull into my drive and lost all power, steering went heavy and coasted to a standstill. Turned the ignition to restart engine and the key just kept rotating in the barrel without engaging. Took the key out and turned the steering wheel until it locked and then tried again, the key engaged and the engine started first time. There are no warning lights evident.

I have spoken to the dealer and also the Audi service department (they are owned by the same company) and they cannot offer any ideas as to what might have caused this. Dealer said to ring and arrange the car to be brought in and they will supply a courtesy car while they look at it.

I was hoping to take some pictures and get them uploaded to the site today and show her off but that might have to wait for a while now..

Many thanks,
Ben

Dunno mate. Your symptoms started off sounding like classic MAF failure imo, but then i've never suffered a dead dash at the same time? I've had MAF issues in the past with petrol cars but never on my TDI. Don't know if they are prone to failure on A2's but if i were you and nothing shows up from the inspection but the issue re-occurs i'd ask the dealer to change it and take it from there.

Thanks for responding. Took the car out again and it did not occur as before but the power steering amber warning light came on (steering felt fine). Will be on the phone to the dealer in the morning.

I already love this car, it's really nippy and responsive, corners like a little go kart. My last car had 210 bhp but the A2 feels more fun already. Loved watching the mpg hold at 55 even though I was not even trying to conserve fuel.

I hope there's nothing too wrong with it.
