Hi,

Following on from Phil & Murdo's suggestion - I've created this forum for all your car washing needs.

I'll shuffle any old posts that look relevant into here.

Ben

I use Zymol...

Auto Bathe for washing
HD Cleanse for cleaning and
Titanium Wax for waxing

I will add to this list later

Thanks for suggesting / creating this forum. I'm sure we all take pride in how our A2's look. I spend most of my "valet and detailing" time on my TR7 as I take it to classic car shows and club meetings over the summer, but I'll have to give the A2 some attention in time for the Scottish cruise.:)

Just bought some of that clay stuff to clean my car down, also a steam cleaner to clean the seats 'n' stuff, and been given one of the Auto-Glym sponge things with the polish in.
Now to find the time to do it :D

Hey this is what we want for all us OCD freaks lol

Cheers Phil

Yep - great new forum - cheers Phil. I'm going to add Murdi's 'how to pamper an Audi' thread soon. Need to check up on the name of some of the lotions and potions in the tool box!! :D

When im pushed for time i usually take my car to the Morrison's Jet wash as you can select any setting in your own time and find the finish quite good, but when its time to give her some TLC im afraid im pretty basic. Turtle wax car shampoo then rinse, then black Color Magic car polish.

I would be interested to try some of this clay product, to be honest im not really sure what it is, can anyone recommend which is best, is it like a t-cut kind of thing to remove oxidised paint?

Claying a car removes only surface contaminants - not oxidised paint.

The easiest to get hold of (as Helfraiuds sell it) is Meguiars clay kit, but the best (in my view, as it only needs water as a lubricant) is Bilt Hamber clay, available at very few outlets, but is around a tenner online.

Think your paintwork is smooth? Think again! When you've shampoo'd and rinsed the car, rub a piece of clay over the paintwork and you'll be amazed at the cr*p it removes and the finish afterwords is like glass.

You'll need to lube the area (never use it dry) and then rinse off the residue, so it's a bit of a faff, but is totally worth it.

Cheers,

Mike

A few Items to read ..... If you want too..

Three stages to a waxed finish

Note - If you need to Klay you would do so between the Bathe and HD Cleanse.

And finaly how to wash your car

I have no obligation to these but it works.

I haven't needed to Klay yet as HaZeL has been well looked after and the HD Cleanse brings the Smoooothness discribed and Mike is correct that Klay doesn't remove the oxidised layer.

Hey Mike just to cut down on your FAFFING as it only needs water why not do what i do, and use it while you are shampooing?;). Sponge the shampoo on then rub clay, rince with sponge, then move on to the next bit, thats what i've been doing for over 10 yrs the 3M stuff only needs water

Cheers Phil

I do a rinse before using the clay as I want to get rid of big particles of contaminants before using the clay.

All it takes is one piece of sand to get lodged in the clay and you're looking at loads more paint correction!

Mike

is it like a t-cut kind of thing to remove oxidised paint?

T-CUT is so old school and so behind the times, well excuse me while i just clear my throught :D, as you car is black, it is clear over colour, you can get a T-Cut for this but i would never recomend anyone using it.

T-Cut was used for the old soild colour cars that use to fade in the sun you know the ones red astras:eek::D they do look funny often thought about leaving a card if you want your car to be red and not pink give me a call, but then drove passed chuckling, anyway back to it, if you wash and wax your car often enough you should never have that problem, don't think i've ever had a laquered car that has suffered from this. Most things come off after a good clay and wash and anything more stubbun well i just get the green monster and a sheep on the job  (thats my green polisher and a lambs wool head ;), if you was woundering)

Yes but, you can clay as you are shampooing and not as you posted, shampoo, dry then clay with water spray. Rince first with jet wash or hose then shampoo and clay at the sametime
