NEWSFLASH........Reborn A2 is ready to charge in.......Autoexpressnews...........

Very Cool! A2 looks nice. I think the separation on the A2 as a Green Brand is a good idea.

I really liked the 496bhp 4WD Audi A1

Car Porn I love it coooooooooooor v cool

Mmmmm..... for some reason I find it hard to believe anything from Autodistress. This looks like photoshop of an A1 morphed with an old A2, wow, how imaginative.... not!

Absolutely no interest in an electric-only A2, if that is what it is to be; I wouldn't fancy my daily commute in winter with all the range-anxieties of stop-start traffic, lights, heater, stereo, sat nav, electric seat warmers etc. A range-extender hybrid would be of significant interest though as that will make much more sense in our current driving environment (and lack of useful charging points!) - Audi were/are trialling a rotary-diesel-engine range-extender last year in the A1 - that sort of idea would be much more welcome/ useful/ relevant. I do like those artists impressions of what it might look like though!

An electric A2 would be useless for me also, since I don't have off-road parking.

I was a bit bemused by the artists impression of the A2... with what looks like a pair of exhaust pipes?

Good spot - wouldn't twin exhausts be somewhat redundant on a fully electric car!

It says it will costs more than the original A2, which was not exactly cheap.

Electric and hybrid cars have to be financially viable otherwise they are not to relevant to me.

Well in the UK there is a Govt £5k "incentive" on certain electric only cars like the Nissan Leaf?

Actually that reminds me, I was passed by not one, but two, Tesla Roadsters on my commute last week. Although I often toy with the idea of getting an Elise as a weekend car, I'm still not sure if the Tesla would be a suitable alternative!

I checked out the range of electric cars and only fancied the Smart electric which i thought was around 12/13K with the Govt incentive.

It looks like I will be keeping mine for the time being. A all electric car for me is no good as I only have a 6amp power surply. I would never be able to charge it!

Cheers

David

The pictures might be made up but I really like the design and can see the A2 heritage.
Alternative fuels are the way forward - be interesting to see how quickly or otherwise things change . . .

Different to your requirements, I'd love to experiment an all electric A2 (although I'm not a big battery fan) if there are some form of incentives! I only use my car in the weekends. More often than not, very short journeys (< 30 miles a weekend). I have a driveway that i can modify to fit an external plug for trickle charging. For my usage, I only need to charge every 2 weeks! The longest weekend trips we do these days are to B'ham, 100 miles each way visiting friends, who should be able to spare some electricity. But electric itself shouldn't be the deal breaker for the new A2 anyway, it has to be a truly innovative product like ours!

Electric vehicles aren't the enviromental elixir everyone seems to think they are - the electricity still comes from our carbon intensive grid. UK estimates put electric vehicles at about 75g CO2/mile for our UK grid (study by Ecometrica), the US estimate is 115g CO2/mile. Better than virtually all current petrol / diesels, but only just. And that's a whole lot more power stations needed if there's 20 million electric vehicles charging around (sorry couldn't resist...)

And of course there is now so much NIMBYISM endemic in the UK these days for people who object to any planning application for any type of power generation (insert most hated power generation scheme of choice here, be it gas, clean coal, nuclear, wind, wave, hydro, biomass or solar!) or electricity pylons in their area that we'll never manage to get any new electricity capacity built anyway to charge 20million electric vehicles!

Although I often toy with the idea of getting an Elise as a weekend car,

They're well worth owning at least once in your motoring career. Buy a 111S and you can average 40mpg, £165/tax and still have 0-60mph in ~5s.
Not many performance cars have that level of efficiency.

I suspect it will more likely be a range extender hybrid based on the A1 range extender Concept car. As long as such a vehicle will give 400miles+ range before re-fuelling then I would be interested.

Is that comparing to the emission produced by the engine itself, what about the emission during which the fossil fuel was refined to petrol/diesel form vs burning mined coal or just the gas; The delivery to/from refinery vs electricity delivered over the wire? I'd be interested to see a full life cycle comparison. Then there's the carbon cost of battery, exotic chemical extraction, consumption of (semi)synthetic oil in IC engines, the massive amount of waste heat of IC engine heating the atmosphere vs much lower heat lost at the power plant...etc. It is never simple! :)

But the simple fact is, until the government tax electricity like they do on petrol, an electric A2 would be very cheap to run for me! (and that's the whole reason, I don't really care about the carbon footprint!)

One thing electric and hybrid vehicles are good at is reducing the pollution concentration levels in city centres, possible the main reason the government is pushing this technology. If people start to charge their vehicles overnight it may even improve power station efficiency as it evens up the day to night time electricity demands.

IM SO IN LOVE!!!!! I've had my A2 now for about a year and I am so blown away by the car. Its by far the best, most versatile and nible car I've ever owned, and I've had a few to put it into perspective.

When I place my order on the new A2, there is no way I'm selling the A2 I drive today! NEVER!!! :) I'll keep it in the family for all time!

Cant wait... this is exciting!!

'some much nonsense written about the A2 - best go to A2OC webpage for accurate information! Had my A2 1.2 TDI since 2002 - now over 150,000 miles, road tax free (81g/km CO2), generally 85MPG (imperial gallons) and have seen 103 MPG in rush hour drive over 28 mile journey. It is no slouch due to light weight and very low drag (0.25Cd). In germany, on one journey over 2 hours, I averaged 95mph on Autobahns and still achieved 66MPG with full load. Can take seats out and carry more than an A3 - have had washing machine and even a sofa in the boot! As for handling - took it round Castle Combe race track with a Lotus racing driver - he was very impressed by handling on such skinny Bridgestone tyres (145/80R14) !

This really doesn't help me not want one :(

It'll come out with an engine in it once it's established as an electric car, much like 3 door A1/5 door A1/ cabrio A1 etc etc.
