No more cold air

Good afternoon,

On my latest trips I have noticed that the aircon is just blowing outside air through the cabin. Unfortunately, I also suffer from the 'Tropical Mode' issue for which I need to change the flaps motor (I think). Might those two problems be related? In terms of the aircon not working, will that just require a simple top-up / re-gas, or is the system prone to failing / leaking?

All advice is welcome :)

It has been regularly serviced by myself and the last of the previous owners, so the cabin filter should be ok, I guess

Would have to go through the paperwork. It's due for a service in the coming weeks so I can ask them to change it anyway, and have them take a look at the aircon. I worked fine until June of this year. The 'Tropical Mode' has been an issue for a couple of years now, but it seems to be intermittent.

Garages only normally check the cabin filter when requested, or as part of an aircon service, which is supposed to be done every two years. Since most owners begrudge the expense, aircon servicing is not included as part of a regular service.

My A2 had never once had the aircon serviced in 15 years when I bought it, and not surprisingly the aircon didn't work. A service and a new filter bought it back to full working order, slightly to my surprise.

Get your aircon serviced by a specialist rather than shopping round for the cheapest option. It's a job that needs to be done properly.

Yes, an auto scan, to see what's up, flaps AC etc. If flaps, try basic settings on the HVAC controller, which gives the flaps a workout. Needs to be a licensed copy for basic settings.
Mac.

I only have VCDS built into a colour DIS, would that work too?

You might have a problem with your flaps but that won't stop the A/C from working; they just direct the cold air, if that is selected. Your problem will be due to:

1). Lack of refrigerant or
2). A problem with the cooling fan or
3). A problem with the compressor or
4). The G263 has failed or
5). The pressure sensor has failed.

If 1)., you have a leak. The condenser is the most likely cause. Changing the condenser is a bumper-off job. Change the dryer at the same time. If 5)., the sensor can be changed without releasing the refrigerant. A VCDS scan should point you in the right direction.

Thanks for all the information. The only VCDS is have is the one using the Colour DIS. I would need to find a good overview of the different HVAC measuring blocks.

Okay, I've had a look at what the colour DIS has to offer, and it is described here in this post by @timmus :

I must admit that I hadn't taken in the full range of functions on offer with the colour DIS, which is impressive. However, I don't think it helpful to describe the colour DIS as having VCDS, because that is specifically the name of Ross-Tech's software package, and that is certainly how the term VCDS is generally understood on this forum.
