Information Noisy wiper blade?????

I did sone experimenting with various wiper blades.

The red FSI I bought had a dreadful wiper blade. That horrible wiper judder and noise. I didn’t bother fitting s new blade and my experience of buying the aero style blade that can be fitted to the non-aero arms in the past were a failure.

So I picked up a later style wiper arm set up. I wanted a new blade and I saw sone Bosch ones very cheap. Forget it they came with the various different connectors for the blade attachment and I have had bad experiences with them in the past. I was right unfortunately they were so noisy I had to replace them. I went for a dearer arm (twice as dear) fitted that and it was Huddersfield, noisy and missed out parts of the screen.

So I ordered a new one from an Audi dealer. What a difference. It was quiet as a mouse and cleared every part of the screen perfectly. The cost £24 delivered. The other thing I liked about it was that there is an indentation in it so you can see which way around it fits. The others didn’t have any way of determining which way it should go.

So if you need a new wiper I strongly recommend a genuine Audi wiper (also Bosch) and with a built in connector designed especially for the A2)

Hi Steve,

Is there a part number? I have fitted the aero arm - are they all a standard fitment that this would work with?

There are basically just the two arms. The early one with the hook end on it and the later one with the pin that locates the aero wiper.
I would suggest that you ask Tom (CreweAudi) for a price for an aero blade to suit the later style wiper arm.
I bought mine on eBay but that was an advert from Stoke Audi who used to supply parts through the forum but went quiet after a change in their team.

I have found that the aero wiper is much better than the earlier model.
My only gripe is that the replacement blades are very expensive and they only seem to last about a year.
I do not recall having to renew wiper blades on my previous cars as frequently as this.

The rubber is quite thin by design. If they are frozen to the screen it can damage them.
But £24 for a year of silent wiper is worth it to me.
I HATE wiper noise and so these are very good.

It also depends on how much play you have in your wiper arm pivots. With a good wiper arm you are less likely to have wiper noise.

There is a German device that I bought (can’t quite recall the name - maybe Eco cut?)
It’s a blade that you run along the edge of a smearing or chattering wiper to reprofile the glass contact edge back to a ‘chisel’ shape. I’ve not tried it yet as I bought it after renewing 7 wipers in a lump! Soon though... soon!

Hi @steveb
Is my wiper arm the earlier or later model? If it is the earlier one, do you have the part number so that I can order a newer one? Thx.

I use Bosch wipers on a later type arm and never had any problems. Biggest problem with wiper arms is wear causing sagging and the loss of a rubber grommet on the rear. Cost me three windscreens.

A little off topic but thought I would mention it while members are inspecting their wipers and arms.
