Not So Far Off ....

Not sure if these can help you with the rear exhaust. Would also have to check about shipping to Ireland.

Site is showing out of stock but perhaps a phone call may work or at least this give you other manufacturers to try.
Thanks Audifan, I came across this site along with a few similar ones based in the Netherlands, the stumbling block being Brexit and the current 'agreement' to supply (or not!) to Northern Ireland ... no one seems to be aware that we are still a part of the United Kingdom. I've emailed ECP to see if they can order a Klarius as they are authorised dealers and then I think, providing the car is still performing, a new custom stainless steel exhaust will be a worthwhile investment from a local manufacture for a long term solution.

Thanks again Audfan ... Tom

LLOOONNNNGGGGGGG shot ........

Are advertising a breaker. Assuming it has a useable exhaust, even with a little welding may be enough to get you mobile again. Or could your exhaust be welded?

Graham.

P.S. audifan and not Audifan

Thanks Graham ... just a bit far away that one, about a 500 mile round trip ... overall my exhaust looks in good shape and would think that it could be welded, there's no hole in it as such .... just the seam has given up, at least from what I can see. I've just ordered some exhaust putty recommended by Keith in an earlier post ... a temporary fix hopefully to get through the MOT and taxed, then look around for a more permanent repair or replacement.
Yes, I found Mister Auto (Ireland) in my search but the same problem applies with Brexit and they divert me to the UK site as would be expected ... Northern Ireland is not in the EU ... the Walker one looks fine also but unfortunately their site is down at the minute and waiting to hear back from ECP.

Thanks again for your help, I'll keep posting any updates .... Tom

Jump on the ferry as a foot passenger, I'll meet you at Holyhead with mine, get back on the ferry for return trip...bingo! Day trip out, and an exhaust thrown in at the end of the day!!!! Never problems, only solutions!

Actually on with ECP customer services ... waiting on a response.

I think PR-OM1 is the larger fuel tank capacity. would need to check your code FSI and ATL were only available with the larger tank hence no code.

I suspect that as long as you have the larger fuel tank the FSI although not the same number should be OK with the correct coupling piece.

My 2003 AMF diesel does not have a PR-OM1 or PR-OM2 code but was built by then with the larger tank. So would guess as the larger tank was optional on early cars it is only those cars that would have either of those codes.

It is the coupler that is of different lengths. Got to be better than putty repair even if temporary.

The only other issue could be the tank size if the silencer is also a different shape or mounted differently.
Thanks Graham, definitely intending for a long term fix, I've had the car nearly twenty years from new and maybe get another twenty ...
I've ordered the stuff recommended by Keith, should be here tomorrow ... only needs to last for the duration of the MOT, then can get taxed and drive around for a repair or replacement ... no joy from ECP yet.

Mine has the 42l tank ...

So that again suggests to me Andys silencer will be OK on your car, just reuse the existing coupling piece already on the car. It is a petrol silencer going onto another petrol so do not see an issue there. Exhaust note may be a little different only fitting would tell that.

One last check to make before committing to this is to measure the diameter of the pipes to ensue they are the same diameter. If the FSI is larger then a modified coupling would be needed to match the 2 diameters.

I would definitely try and source a good original back box if i were you and forget the ECP aftermarket one as I bought one for my 1.9 Tdi VW Caddy many years ago as a forced urgent purchase for it's MOT and it completely ruined it.
It felt like a completely different vehicle and the lack of power afterwards was quite unbelievable. As you can imagine it was quickly removed and replaced with a genuine one.

I really do try and keep everything original if at all possible as the quality of most, if not all parts (and everything else) from the far east I find really quite appalling.

Thanks A2Z ... I'm drawing a blank at an aftermarket one, maybe just as well following your experiences but really surprised that there are loads advertised and in stock ... until you try and place an order, then they aren't available!
I was chatting to Euro Car Parts yesterday and they can't even be bothered to reply to their 'parts request' procedure.
Repair putty is on its way and next step when I get mobile again is getting one custom made, hopefully someone in Northern Ireland can fabricate a similar back box out of stainless steel ... maybe including the middle resonator as well.
All the best ... Tom

If anyone's curious ... this is where the back box is blowing ... the part number is 8Z025369N

And while I was under there noticed that two of the heat shield retaining bolts above and between the middle and back box have been sheared off ... anybody know if these can be replaced or fixed?

Many thanks ... Tom
