Number plate lens

Well it had to happen and over a bank holiday to boot. My left hand side number plate lens fell out today when I closed the boot. It had both ends cracked where the screws go through. Managed to hold it in on one side by using a washer. Looks like I will need to replace both lens now. Do they come in pairs or as single units and how much will it cost me. Not sure why it has cracked is it down to poor design, looking at the lens it really doesnt ooze Audi quality

Hi crb1011
The lens normally cracks because the retaining screws expand with rust and burst the plastic. Replace the standard Audi screws with stainless self tappers - I got mine from a Screwfix selection box which I had in stock

Cheers Spike

Mine has cracked too, it is going in for a service on Wednesday. I was going to get them to fit a new one I will let you know the cost!

Redders, fit it yourself its very easy thats what I shall be doing once I get one from the stealer

cheers Mark will call dealer in the morning lets hope they have them in stock. Yes I agree if the screws are rusted in can be awkward but mine are not managed to undo them just took a bit of force not sure why Audi dont fit stainless steel screws grrrrrr

well got new number light lens and changed in less than 5 mins will put vaseline on the screw heads to stop them going rusty. costs £13 for two from the dealership

Vaseline will not do the trick - get yourself down to B&Q and get a bag of stainless self tappers for £1.30.

You won't find a screw exactly the same shape, but they do a pack of 8 stainless screws which have been holding my lenses in from week 1 of ownership (I learnt from my previous A2) and are going strong after 18months.

Hi if you want to get some stainless screws the exact size I got mine from a local chandlers for about 50p for 4 bargain
