Oil level sensor

Yes it looks like the 3l is common with the 1.2L petrol polo and a few others

No, the 1.2 9N Polo petrol engines have the same oil sensor as the AMF, BHC & ATL diesels (045907660D). Compared with the latter, the ANY sensor is in a different position.

Yes, ANY engines (1.2 TDI 3L) has a totally unique sensor, with a 90 degrees elbow. Most of the shops and catalogs would give the same sensor like in the 1.4 tdi, but it doesn't fit. If anyone has an idea where to get one in a reasonable price, i would really appreciate that, i've been hunting for one for years... :D There was also a thread somewhere regarding fixing one of these sensors, with pictures as well. Anyone seen that? Can't find either.. :(

I also have this error code:
00562 - Sensor for Oil Level/Temperature (G266)
29-10 - Short to Ground - Intermittent

I found this link on a german forum which is pretty clear on how to fix the sensor:

I'm planning on trying the operation with my next oil change. After fixing the hydraulic of the auto trans and successfully repacing the driver side door latch micro switch, I feel confident enough to try this one. After 3 years of level sensor warning beeping, that would be an amazing improvement ;)

I'll keep you updated

Did anyone test de Audi r8 sensor?

oem code: 420907660
example: https://www.ebay.com/p/1022166397

It seems to have the same shape as the a2 but the price is usually 40 50 euros lower and it seems to be easier to find.

For the 1.2 tdi - ANY engine - (not sure if it is the same for other versions):

A tip that I did not find anywhere but one of the mechanics shared and it needs to be tested:

--> Check the open hood switch - if the switch is broken then the sensor will show an error. This mechanic said this is 60 70% the case.

When the "hood" - service hatch in front is opened - do you have a light on dash telling you is opened?

I just need a confirmation from someone that does not have the sensor error - because I believe the 2 are related.

My assumption is that if the "hood open" indicator is not working on dash...then the oil level sensor error will appear. (Apparently the hood switch is used to power or to reset the oil sensor....)
Can anyone confirm this?

It did not work for me - i tested the switch and it seems fine but i don't have a light on dash coming on when the "hood" is opened.

Soldering did not work either (as described above in one of the fixes).

Thank you very much for the helpful insight.
Greetings from Transylvania :D

Aparently the r8 sensor does not have the hole all the way trough - posted another question here and got some answers:

This has the format of an ANY sensor. The AMF/BHC sensor is more like this:

Do you think that the pins might be different?
The shape...looks almost the same - except the hole...

Our A2 1.4 Petrol Oil Level Sensor “ mended itself “ last year. I posted about it at the time. Oil Level Low Warning Light came on. Dipstick said the Oil Level was correct. Engine sounded fine. No indication of Oil Pressure Low, so I just left it until an Oil Change would be next due. Kept driving as normal. The Oil Level Low Warning just went away one day. Might have been associated with driving up and down some unusually steep hills ? That Oil Change is still not due. A2 only does about 6,000 miles a year now. I’m using that Millers Trident VW specific non longlife Oil in it these days ( 5w - 40 ? ). Thought it might help with the Piston Slap that started around 60,000 miles. Never really decided if it has helped or not !

Dropping it off at WOM Automotive and leaving it with them for a New Clutch at 125,000 miles - 116,000 of those driven by myself, Mrs, & 2 kids who both learned to drive in the A2 then treated it as their own for some time. Lucky kids !

Hi Steve

Thanks for the tip. In your case sounds like a wire contact issue (or the open hood switch - waiting for confirmation on this matter).

Mine shows sensor error and it usually appears after 2-3 minutes from starting the car - it is just annoying.

I know the oil is ok:D...I just spent over 1500k eur on the car now:)) (clutch, oil chain + all chain wheels , timing belt, oil, filters, front driving axels, brake pipes etc) - I know the price is good...but this are the prices here.

The oil I use is 5w-30 longlife with 15k km (or one year) oil change. The 5-40 was kind of smoky and the 5w-30 it's suppose to be fully synthetic..so much better.

With the sensor I tried:
->re-soldering the connections as in some cases - it did not work for me.
->check the "open hood" switch (it look fine - with the multi-meter) - it is suppose to reset or connect the sensor. I am not sure about this but one mechanic said there is a connection between the sensor and the switch.

In you case when you open the "hood" - the small one - do you see a notification on the dash? Like when a door or trunk is opened...

The Oil Level Low Warning Lamp has never come back on again. I disconnected the Service Flap Switch ( Open Hood ) a long time before the Oil Level Low Warning Lamp incident to stop the car Alarm going off. Made no difference to anything. Just stopped the Alarm. There are no Door Open warnings on my A2. Maybe they are on DIS which this A2 does not have ?

The VW Specific Millers Trident Non Longlife Oil is Fully Synthetic.

Cheers,

Steve

My 1.2 3L has "opened door" warning on the dash like in the attached picture (and the sensor error too:)).
It knows exactly which door is opened - except the hood (never seen it notify if the hood is opened).
Can anyone share some light on this?

Should the open hood notification pop up or not? (when it is opened of course:) )

I have just checked on my FSI and no service flap open warning on dash when open (hood sounds too American for me). There is a sensor on the service flap for the alarm system, often triggering a nuisance alarm when the flap is not shut fully.

Andy

There is no indication on DIS for an open service flap on my 1.2Tdi. All five doors can be indicated as being open. I am not aware of any link between the service flap switch and the oil sensor. Does the 1.2Tdi have a service flap switch? With the flap open and the car locked, the door LED flashes. Since 1.2Tdi's have no alarm, what would be the point of a service flap switch?

RAB

Don't know if this applies to 1.2 tdis but the car's 'logic' is that the microswitch on the service flap cancels the low oil level warning when the flap is opened.
Can only assume the oil level sensor reacts too slowly for it to accurately record the level immediately after top up

Cheers Spike

Yes, Spike, that makes sense. I always use the dipstick anyway (which will be just as slow).

RAB

Thanks for the answers. Very helpful. It is somehow funny that they had the possibility to show "service flap opened" and they did not.

I checked the service flap switch(sorry for the hoood analogy:) ) again and it is "normal open" - when the flap is closed. This means it reacts as a "re-setter" not as an power supply switch... It sends a signal only when the flap is opened (it closes the circuit).
