Oil warning light

Hi

This morning while travelling to work the oil min level warning light came on.
I've only had the car a couple of weeks and it was supposedly serviced before I picked it up.
I've added a little oil and the warning lights gone out but it still didn't seem to be registering on the dip stick.
I've not noticed any oil on the drive so I'm hoping it was just a combination of the hot weather and the dealer not filling it up properly.

Anyone else experienced any problems with oil usage ?

I've an 02 1.4 16V with supposedly only 16K on the clock

Thanks.

The cars sat at home at the moment so it should have settled by the time I get home so I'll check it when I get back.

I've done about 500 miles in the last couple of weeks since the service so I wouldn't have expected the oil to have dropped by much. It was a bit of a shock when the low oil light came on this morning.

I have to admit, the dip stick is unreadable when the oils new so I'm hoping the dealer made a mistake refilling it.

dont be fooled by thinking that you have put enough oil in just because the oil min light has gone out. The light will go out as soon as you open up the service flap. i would strongly suggest that you take the car back to the dealer for a check as I have had the light come on even when I had oil between min and max. it turned out to be a faulty sensor. When mine came on last year I had covered 4k since the service and I added .75l which prevented the oil min light coming on. Just recently it came on again so took it to a vw dealer who put in just under a litre and then set up a consumption test which involved taking the milage and sealing the dip stick with tape to stop any tampering. Covered 600 miles and the level was rechecked by the dealer and it was still at the max mark. I really find it difficult to check the oil level so I now take it to the dealer to check it for me seems a bit drastic but it appears to be the only way

Thanks.

Checked the oil last night after the cars been left for a day and it appears to be just off the top of the marker on the dip-stick so I'm guessing it wasn't that low when the light came on.
I've got the car booked in at the local stealer tomorrow morning to get it checked out.

Just back from the stealer.

Apparently it was low on oil, sensor was ok, no visible leaks, so its thought at the service not enough oil was put in.
I will be having words with the dealer I bought the car from.

I will have to have a look at the dipstick in a while to see what the level should look like..

Remind me to never take my car there, if they can't put the correct oil level in! Blimey, talk about b*llsing up the basics!

To be fair it wasn't an approved Audi dealer, just an indipendent garage with a bunch of ex BMW ppl. I won't be taking my car back there though.

stick to Audi or VW dealers when it comes to looking at your car. Any VW or Audi dealer worth its salt will check your oil level for free as I have found out.

I've found My A2 1.4 SE uses more oil than I would've expected as It generally needs topping up every 7-800 miles.

Strange how the increased consumption started after my second variable service though!

My brother in law's Merc C180 Kompressor doesn't even have a dipstick. The only way to check the level is to tell the car to do it for you. It then tells you the amount of oil needed in steps of 0,5 liters.
