Old Vs. New style of windshield washer jets - thoughts?

Hi all,

Was looking for opinions as old style squirter felt like it was doing better than "new" style and would cover windshield better or is it just me?

Having new style now i have to time spraying so it hits the wiper blade and splatters it around over the wiper blade - when i got it the right most nozzle would just spray it over the windshield to do the windscreen for car behind me - with a bunch of fiddling i am feeling both cross eyed and frustrated. is there a trick to it? From posts I've seen i have impression new type jets are preferred but it feels like i run out of liquid faster (unless newer A2 has smaller washer liquid tank?) and it is more effort to get the whole stroke of wiper wet?

Is it a straight swap (the plastic bit under windshield and plugs for nozzles?) if i got an older style part?

They are not changeable unless you change the plastic scuttle mount too. If you have heated versions the plugs are different too IIRC.

As above, it's a straight swap providing you change both the scuttle panel and the jets themselves, and providing that these are not heated. But you will very likely encounter hardened and brittle tubing that either won't come off the connectors, or will break, or both.

Luckily my tubing is in quite good condition as i have the scuttle off for easier access to gearbox gubins - good to know it is a straight swap though will probably look into it once wallet recovers from clutch replacement :) sounds like an easy bit of job.

Strange, I have the later washer and never felt it was deficient and as you comment the opinion is the later version is more efficient. Surely if the jets are shooting over the car and washing the windscreen of the car behind then they are adjusted wrong.

Before you go ahead with the 'retro upgrade', have you not read Paul's(Depronman) comment here.

Partly why I wanted some opinions as it seems later style do have better feedback where I find the ones on drive side spray gets blocked by the wiper arm as it moves? When I was fiddling it either shoots over or sprays at the wiper arm, especially the right most one, the old spit everywhere type would somewhat spray all over the windshield only issue would be at higher speeds it would not reach as well. Might have a look for some other style ones, Mrs fiat 500 has similar style but does 3 jets each which at least in my land of imagination should work quite well coverage wise, I mean how hard can it be to adapt nozzles from another car.
