I've only had my A2 for three months - and since it's my first Audi, I've had no previous Audi dealer experience. But judging by some of the comments already on the forum, it sounds as if my findings below might be a representative sample of the whole dealer network...i.e. only one in four of the Audi UK dealer network is blessed with any competence.
1. Swindon Audi. First meeting with an A2. Attentive to begin with, got a test drive without any problem, good knowledge about the car, etc. Told them we were interested in buying, would want to complete a sale within the month. But then the only A2 they wanted to sell me was a base model 1.4 petrol, overpriced, that they happened to have in stock. I had told them I wanted TDI SE. No effort made to find one through the dealer network; very poor at returning calls. When I asked them if they could get one from another dealer, they said yes - but then didn't ring them in time to secure them, hence I lost out on two suitable models.
2. Northfield Audi, Tetbury. Nearer to home. Through their website, asked them to contact me. Nearly four months later, I'm still waiting for their phone call and response re: a test drive...
3. Smith Knight Fay, Stockport. Called them after I found the right car through their website, although 200 miles from home. Good saleswoman, helpful, finance manager matched the cracking APR deal I already had - and car was good price in the first place. BUT - since I collected it, haven't heard a sausage from them. I would have expected some kind of follow-up, questionnaire, 'phone call to see how I was getting on and whether there were any problems. Nothing.
4. Oxford Audi. Took the A2 here after a couple of faults developed. Very helpful staff, easy to get the car booked in with no significant waiting time. Courtesy car available. Faults fixed, always told me what was going on, car returned properly cleaned - second time it was delivered back to my office. Full marks to them.
It's ironic that Oxford has turned out to be the best one ... my A2's an Audi UK ex-demo that was originally registered in Oxford and only ended up at Stockport because Smith Knight Fay picked it up at Audi's dealer auction...
