Hi there,
my A2 has an open sky. This winter I want to go skiing a few times - how do you transport your skis in the A2. Has Audi improved a system to put the skis at the roof? Or any tuner etc.?
I don´t want to have the wet skis in the car........
Greetings,

Hi Wolfgang !

I'm just back from Germany yesterday after a visit to Audi Zentrum Flensburg :)
Great dealer, great service !

I also purchased the Audi "Original Grundträger Logo" which does fit the A2 with Open Sky you just have to keep the roof CLOSED !!!!!!!!

I'm planning to mount it on my A2 today and take some pictures of it and have Stuart post them in one of the gallerys.

Ah, ok! My Audi-dealer gave me the A2-prospect and there was no possibility to transport skis. I´ll ask him again........

But the Audi catalogue does say "Der Grundtraeger ist nicht geeignet fuer Fahrzeuge mit "Open-Sky" System" - translates as "the roof carrier is not recommended for vehicles with Open-Sky system." Stuart asks the key question - how strong is the narrow channel in the roof opening of an Open-Sky car? If Audi know they are not saying.

Chivers,

"nicht geeignet" is much stronger than "not recommended". I would rather translate it as "the roof carrier can not be used with vehicles with Open-Sky system".

To all you non-believers :D

I used my Audi roof rack/carrier (Original Grundträger Logo) for the first time today. Used it to transport some pieces of furniture !

(Dimensions: 110cm x 180 cm, weight app.: 35 kg, transport distance: 25 km, average speed app.: 70 km/h)

Worked flawlessly ! (The Open Sky is still intact:))

Remowed the back seats as well and filled her up to the brim :)

I really do love my new A2 !

Hi friends,
THULE has also cancelled their release of the THULE roof rack for the A2 with OpenSky. That's why the AUDI car certification for A2 with OpenSky showing no weigth values for roof load (A2 normal maximum 50 kg).
Technical its not a problem to use the THULE or the AUDI roof rack on A2 with OpenSky.
But the problem is the practical load from the roof rack clamps on the glass sections. The may be damaged in this area.
I am also looking for a "save" solution. My idea is an vacuum- adhesive connector on glass with integrated Ski- holder. (same principle like for glass- transport). But such things no exist ...

Not sure whether that is of any help, but not too long ago I saw a different solution on ebay!! It was a rack for the boot door. In other words it would not affect the open sky roof. Unfortunatly I can't remember the company.

A2 1.4TDI Silver, CC, Blaupunkt Hamburg CD70, still fairly standard :(

Hi

The solution is the Thule bicycle carrier (model 968) combined with Thule RMS ski adapter (model 971-2) mounted on the boot door. This works just great for up to 4 pair of skis but it's expensive.

I would be very glad to learn of any solutions that any one discovers for Open Sky roof racks. I was just at an Audi dealership in London yesterday (as the snow fell!) and asked about it. They looked it up and used the phrase "not suitable", which is ambigous: does it mean that the Open Sky cannot open up when the roof rack is on, or does it mean that the glass might break, get badly scratched, etc.? I would ideally like to put a Thule box or equivalent on a roof rack, so there should be no risk of anything falling though the glass, but there will be some weight pressure on the points of roof rack contact with the car.

My wife, son and I love our A2, but with a new baby arriving soon, we are a bit at a loss as to how we are going to fit the baby and all the baby paraphanalia! Hence the roof rack question. I am sure that others must have had the same thoughts. As I say, if some one has found the solution that would be great!
