Open Sky Replacement Panel - Wrong Shape

Has anyone had to have any glass panel replaced in their Open Sky Roof?

Last week I closed the boot on my A2 and the front sliding panel of the roof shattered into millions of pieces and dropped on to the interior sunblind:eek:

Autoglass came out a couple of days later after picking up the part from the local Audi dealer and fitted the panel. They pointed out that this was the first they had done and there were no adjustments. They showed me that the four corners of the new panel ligned up flush with the panels in front and behind but,........at the center of the roofline, the new panel was about 5mm (approx the thickness of the panel) higher than the surrounding panels. Not only is there horrendous wind noise but, water pours in from the front edge when it rains:rolleyes:

Autoglass insist the glass panel is mishaped but the Audi dealers, without seeing it reckon it hasn't been fitted properly. Unfortunately, even if there were adjustments to be made, you can't straighten glass!!

Finally, they have agreed to try a second panel later this week.

Has anyone else had a replacement roof panel installed?
If so, have you had any problems with fit?

Sounds like a bit of a nightmare for you!

I've no experience of having any of my OpenSky panels replaced, but for your reference, here are the part numbers:

The front panel (non-opening) is not a replacement part, and comes supplied with the frame only - 8Z0 877 049A

The second panel back from the windscreen - 8Z0 877 056

The third panel back - 8Z0 877 055

The last panel, or the one nearest the boot, is again, not a replacement part and comes with the frame only (i.e. the frame and the first and last panels are a complete, non-splittable unit).

There is a possibility that the wrong panel has been supplied or asked for, as there is only 1 digit between them.

Cheers,

Mike

Hi Mike

Thanks for the quick reply.
You had me worried - just been out to the car to check dimensions and the front of the two sliding panels is longer than the other. Actually, would have been nice to find they had supplied the wrong one. Now, I'm worried the next replacement will be from the same batch and won't fit either!

I was given the option of sending the car to the bodyshop of my local dealer (75 miles away) so they could investigate it and fix it at my expense (in addition to the £70 excess charged for glass replacement by our insurers!)

It would be sorted by Audi no doubt, but why should you have to fork out for something that you're insured against (albeit with an excess charge).

Fingers crossed that they have supplied the wrong panel!

Cheers,

Mike

Have you spoken to your insurers? You can complain to them, after all your contract is with them. It is the insurers responsibility that you are happy with what work was carried out by their contractor. If it means a trip to Audi then you should not have to pay. I think legally they, the glass replacement company, have the right to rectify the job. If they fail then I'd be onto the insurance company.

Thanks to everyone who helped.

Autoglass fitted a replacement glass panel today and the fit is perfect.
Got to say I was worried - "what if......?".

Very much relieved as I had expected it wouldn't fit and was not sure what my next step would be.:)
