Open sky roof issues

I know this topic has been done to death and have read various threads on here but still looking for advice . The roof was working fine until recently ( typical now the weather is hot!). When I go to open it fully the roof twists and the passenger side looks as if the cable isn't moving it . It tilts fine but when closing it from the tilted position the passenger side no longer sits flush ( get slight wind noise from it now but it doesn't leak ) and it makes a grinding noise once fully closed . Is this a case of having to strip it completely and replace the cables?

it could be a number of things, the most likely are -
1 - cable end to truck connector as broken - repair plates needed
2 - the motor mount as started to come appart allowing the cable to slip against the motor pinion, clicking noise is made - one of my motor mounts is needed to replace the cast alloy oringinal, you will not have the problem ever again

drop me a PM if you want a motor mount I have 2 still available rom the last batch

Thanks for the response. Sounds like it could be the second scenario as it's a loud clicking noise as the sunroof seals against the roof and the button is still being held . How easy is the motor mount to replace ....I'm fairly competent mechanically wise . If I have it all apart am I best replacing parts you've mentioned in the first point as well ?

the motor mount is doable with the head lining in place, you work through the light cluster hole
you need a dremmel and cutting discs and a 90deg head
basically you cut through the ally mount on both side until you hit the conduits, the mount then falls into pieces and allows removals
The new mount is fitted over the conduits and the two halves screwed together, ensure the cutouts in the conduits align with the hole in the motor mount before tighteneing the two halves
then fit the motor to the new mount and your done.
I've fitted a few this way and it now takes me about 2 hours total, first one was a fair bit longer

Ideally you would fit the repair plates and the motor mount and give the trucks and rails they slide in a good clean and re grease - you then have a fully sorted OSS

Hi Paul It would appear I also have this issue now! My OSS was working a bit juddery, so I cleaned the seals, all the grease out, and re-greased it with CV-joint grease, with gummi on the seals.... All good.... until I was working the grease in with the sunroof going forwards, backwards etc etc then the clicking noise, and out of alignment! Its a 2001 car, 67k miles, been standing 3 years.

Paul @depronman is a good contact, but you must also consider contacting @Kleynie as he also does OSS servicing and also replacements / restoration work much closer to London. Where are you in the UK?

Unfortunately mine is now also clicking away, miss-aligning and issues opening and closing... first time it's done it, behaved until now, 22 years...

So I'm now looking for someone in the North East (preferably) that knows what they are doing with them, that can look, diagnose and fix the issue...

Please let me know...

Another vote for @depronman, although he is North West.
