OSS worries

Hi guys, out with my son today clocking up the miles giving him more experience in the car whilst learning.....roof open, great drive over towards brands hatch......until we headed home, went to close the roof and it stops prior to the last piece closing down. We’ve sprayed silicon along the tracks as the roofs not been used for a few months, worked a dream when we got it. So, lack of use....or are these the beginnings of oss issues?

No garage at home, so I don’t wish to play too much trying to figure, did manage to push last section closed without any effort and we can hear motors working......thoughts greatly appreciated....

Many thanks, mark

Hi Mark, if it gets stuck again pull down the interior light unit and you will see an Allen key hole in the motor. Better to work the roof with that rather than forcing anything.

The roof really needs to be used regularly (once a week) even if it's just to open it once and close again. I would avoid doing it when there's any chance it's frozen.

Thanks Steve, going to try open / close in an hour or so, see if the silicon worked, if not, guess I may have issues on the way.....thanks, m

Think i may have been lucky Steve, the A2 Gods have looked down and shown sympathy. After spraying with the silicon, the roofs working perfectly again. So, as you say, open it regularly i shall......weekly. Phew.......one less bill.

You must be one of a very small minority with a working roof. We only open ours once and it wedged, not tried since.

Fluked, believe me. Brought the car blind, before it arrived read the stories on here and thought the worst, when it arrived, to our surprise, worked a dream. As Steve has mentioned, i’ll ensure it’s opened regularly.....

Do the same in summer with ours... regular silicon on the cables and rubbers but don't move it in the winter, I'm sure the grease is too viscous to work without putting too much strain on the mechanism.
