Replaced our Faithful A2 1.4 tdi with a 1.4 petrol that we saw on Autotrader website during lockdown.Always fancied one with sunroof/leather interior.Bought it unseen except for FaceTime video.but only 70 k with exceptional service history. Now we have added 1700 miles!problems so far Despite new tyres on back noticed some cracks on sidewall of front tyre.13 years old!! So new tyres on front!Wife went to get hair done and came back saying engine appeared “noisy”!She is very deaf so jumped in car and found clutch had gone.hence noisy engine!!!Had new clutch fitted and MOT.rang to check it had passed MOT,I should think so said the examiner,it’s like new!Had a few of these in but never one in this condition!,Car is obviously dearer to tax and less mpg.It is though quieter and smoother than the TDI but has nowhere near the torque of the TDI which we miss.Ideal version would be with chipped 90 TDI!! But the one we have will do as we are both in our mid 70’s!,

It sounds like rob you have found yourself a real beauty With very nice spec .
.looking at the mot history confirms a good car ...I agree on the torque it’s exactly what I found with the 1.4 petrol I missed the TDI ...enjoy ?

I've also been thinking of moving from diesel to petrol before moving to an EV. Having had my TDi for 15 years, 2nd owner, 88K miles, a file full of receipts and FSH I think it will be hard to get something equivalent in petrol. But your purchase shows they are out there and it's a case of grabbing them before they go, and I guess paying a premium (but I should get a good price for my TDi - people still want them!).

The petrol is worlds apart to drive Alan, as a town car, fantastic, very lightweight and really smooth modern gearbox and clutch. I’ve gone the other way round to what your thinking of and at first found the diesel very heavy and hard work to drive. Where the petrol for me is a no goer is on the motorway, it just feels gutless in relation to the diesel (mine are remapped) and due to my mix of journeys made sense me changing. If I was just doing local journeys I’d have the petrol everyday over the diesel, it’s that much nicer round town.
