Our car history!

Nissan Sunny - my dad had one of them (not sure what he was thinking), don’t remember anything memorable about it either. Never broke down so assume he bought it because he owned nothing reliable previously.

VW beetle - I’m sure theres a story worth knowing, did the missus coerce you into that one or was it of your own free will?

Like the Passat estate, nearly bought one myself, GTI brilliant, Up brilliant and the A2 is inspired as no doubt we’ll all say.

Of all the cars, the Cavalier SRI always intrigued me as it was supposedly faster and more aspirational for the travelling rep at the time. My uncle had one in a nice metallic blue and I really liked it. Was it any good?
The Cavalier was such a cool car mine was metallic green and black it handled lovely for the time, would run rings round my mates RS2000 and made their Cortinas seem ‘Stone Age’ steering was heavy at slow speed but that’s about the only negative thing I can think about it, the Recaros we’re fabulously comfy even after cabbing it for eight hours.

‘Steering heavy at slow speeds’, in those days, heavy was a result of slightly wider tyres (no recalibration of the steering). If I remember rightly that constituted ‘sporty’ at the time.

I swear I had bigger biceps in the early days...... before power steering became more commonplace! ?

Just counted them and the A2 is car number 20.

@RZX I'd love another X1/9 too, which Visa did you have, 2 or 4 cylinder? I've had both and loved them(warts and all) though the 2 cylinder was a slightly bored out 2CV engine (as used in the Dyane IIRC).

I think it was a 2 cylinder, I bought it from an auction for £270 and was quoted £300 to replace the clutch part of the reason I sold it quick sold it straight.

Not too many cars for me but here goes:
First car was in 1982 ... a two year old 1980 Nissan Cherry in Metallic blue with 18K on the clock and then had a sunroof installed at Paddy Hopkirk's car shop ... gave this to my dad when I bought my next car in 1984.
1984, cycling home from work and there was a Triumph TR7 (1981) in Marshall Watson's in Belfast (F1 John Watson's father no less) ... Brown with gold and yellow stripes and gold alloys, full sun roof, again with 18K on the clock. This one was modified over a couple of years with a Rimmer Brothers body kit and repainted Rosso Red, Compomotive alloys, 'Pico' exhaust and first in a long line of my obsession with Alpine Audio equipment.
1988, Brand new XR2, Charcoal Metallic Grey ... terrible car and big mistake and only kept it for six months.
1989, Brand new Honda CRX in Red... wow, that was a car, complete with a thirteen speaker Alpine Audio system!
1992, traded in for another new Honda CRX in Red, this time the two seater VTI with the electric folding roof.
1994, went all sensible and went for a new Suzuki Vitara in White with bull bars and all the extras ... we had a huge German Shepherd by then and went camping a lot. This car handled like a roller skate.
2002 ... wrote the Vitara off after driving through a flood water on the way home from night shift in Scarborough ... the fire brigade were already there pulling a stuck car out ... go on' you'll be alright in a four wheel drive' ... Not!!
2002 Brand new A2 in Silver which I still own ... the best car I have ever owned.
2018 ... added a two year old Skoda Citigo with 5K on the clock in Silver to the fleet and that is my everyday car.

Not too many in nearly forty years!!

A2, 18 years and one owner car (your good self).

not many of them about. ?

Our 2 cylinder didn't cost much more, it was air-cooled with inboard discs, no distributor. Our Visa 14TRS was bought 'needing' a clutch though had 40k+ put on the clock without getting a clutch. I liked Citroëns quirky era(I'd love a CX).

I concur.

I’ve only ever had two cars where I’m on the 2nd of the same type (only ever had one of everything else) the first is the A2 and the 2nd is the Merc E-class and both are my current cars.

For me that says something and is a high accolade, the A2 more so than the E as its nearly 17 years old, testament to the original design.
