1. Mk1 1300 4 door Ford Escort 1970 H-Reg (shared with my brother - bad mistake!)
2. Mini 1000 1980 V-Reg (also in lime green Murdo! -it was actually called "Applejack Green" if I remember correctly - the same as Mr Bean's)
3. MG Metro Y-Reg (sold to buy my wife's engagement ring - you can still see the gleam of my silver MG Metro when you look into the diamonds!:D)
4. Datsun Cherry F11 Coupe T-Reg (which I had my one and only crash in - I learned never to try and over-take a car that's tuning right - it does'nt work!)
5. VW Polo Coupe T-Reg
6. Volvo 360 GLT (can't remember the Reg)
7. Volvo 360 GLT (another one which was also forgettable!)
8. Then a succession of Renault 25's (about 4 or 5! - my Father-in-law was a mechanic who worked at one time for Renault - bought them all for pennies at auction and "did them up".
9. Vauxhall Nova 1.3 GL Saloon (cant remember the Reg.)
10. Ford Escort 1992 J-Reg (my one and only company car through my work)
11. Mercedes A140 - 51 Reg. (my wife's car, bought when it was 9 months old and she still has it!)

My car history is quite short. Not considering the cars owned by my folks, i've owned only two.
' 93 Oltcit Club 12 TRS - this was the swan song of the local Citroen-Oltcit venture and boy was i nuts about that car. A 1.3 rev happy boxer engine and brilliant versatility for it's age were things that made me forget all the problems caused by the forced air-cooling, leaking oil and splash-prone-low-positioned electrics. Oh, and the dual carburetor meant that you could use anywhere between 6 and 20 liters of petrol for 100km, depending on the weight of my boot.:D
'01 Audi A2 SE - similar cleverly built engine as the previous, but with the emphasis on low fuel consumption this time. Similar satisfying versatility and good handling but this time with a much higher reliability. This little black car makes me go all the way back to Germany in order to get my OSS fixed.:D

Both cars have very helpful forums and owners. I'm a DIYer and these things eund up weighing very much in the experience offered by the car.

This really is a trip down memory lane from about 1970

Honda 90 (the one with the fuel tank in the right place, not the step through one)
Austin Cambridge estate (lots of rust holes, wouldn't go more than 40mph)
Vauxhall Cresta PC (3.3 litre engine, made a profit selling that)
Hillman Imp (better than its reputation)
Ford Escort (mark 1, only 1100cc so definitely not mach 1)
Austin Maxi (my dad gave it to me so couldn't say no)
Rover 2200SC (evil handling)
then 2 VW Passats (company cars, the 2nd was the 5 cylinder one which was nice)
VW Sharan (4 children so needed a 6/7 seater)
Toyota Previa (good space but flawed)
Mercedes V220 (huge but not Merc quality)
BMW 540 estate (best car I've had)
Renault Laguna (French, nothing more to add)

and somewhere towards the end I got my bike licence and
Yamaha TRX850 (brilliant)
Yamaha Thundercat (not bad)
Aprilia Mille (seriously fast)

then off to New Zealand
Toyota Camry estate (nice 2.5 litre V6)
Subaru Legacy (3 litre flat 6 engine, really racy)

And in the meantime once we needed 2 cars Barbara had
Triumph Dolomite Sprint (neat, I remember that overdrive worked on all 4 forward gears)
Rover 3500 (rusty but easy to replace panels)
Citroen CX Familiale (3 rows of seats, quirky, last of the true Citroens)
Skoda Octavia (good)
Audi A2 1.4SE diesel (finally here's the link to this website; it's currently being looked after, at least I hope so, by younger son)

Think that's the complete list

Vauxhall heavy thanks to a father who served for over 25 years with the marque:

1987 Vauxhall Astra Mk2 1.3L 8v (Red - 5 door)
1993 Vauxhall Astra Mk3 1.6GLS 8v (White - 5 door)
1995 Vauxhall Astra Mk3 1.7TD Sport (Red - 5 door)
1995 Vauxhall Astra Mk3 1.6 16v Sport (Red - 5 door)
1997 Vauxhall Astra Mk3 1.6 16v Sport (Black - 5 door)
1995 Vauxhall Calibra 2.0 16v (Forest Green flip - purple in sunlight)
2002 Vauxhall Astra Mk4 2.2 16v SRI (Blue - 3 door)
2005 Audi A2 1.4 TDI Special Edition (Akoya Silver)
2008 BMW 325D M-Sport (Black - 4 door saloon)

2015 Mazda 6 2.0 16v Sport-Nav (Grey - 4 door saloon) PRESENT
2004 Audi A2 1.6 FSI SE (Blue) PRESENT

My vehicles:

1. 1972 1302 Beetle: bought for £25, rotten as a pear and broken for spares.
2. 1969 Beetle: bought for £50 and put back on the road with a couple of bits of welding.
3. 1959 VW Devon camper bought for £500. Sold for £1000 a year later. Wish I'd kept that!
4. 1974 Chevy Camaro. 5.7 ltr V8. Very cool but very rusty! Engine lives on in my God Father's Stingray.
5. 1971 Karmann Ghia convertible. Mint!
6. 1967 Porsche 912. Only car I've ever taken for a drive just for sheer driving pleasure.
7. 1974 Porsche 914 2.0. I got ribbed a lot about this as my friends thought it looked more like a boat.
8. 1986 Golf GTi. Horrible 2 tone paint job; only saving grace was I couldn't see it when inside!
9. 1992 Passat GT 16v. A bit like a big Golf GTi.
10. 1984 VW T25 Westfalia camper. US spec with an engine rebuilt by it's aircraft engineer owner (definitely not a selling point as it turns out; I hope he maintained planes better).
11. 1999 Seat Alhambra. The low spot in my motoring history.
12. 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0. Bought cheaply from my Father-in-law. Sold for a profit (ignoring the small fortune spent on petrol) to a guy who kept going on about how he loves V8's. I wasn't going to jeopardise the sale by mentioning it was a straight six.
13. 2001 VW Passat tdi. Sensible choice after the petrol station-loving Jeep.
14. 1999 VW Caravelle tdi: bought as an impulse buy after some late night Autotrader searching. Kept for 6 years and 60000 and doubled my money when I sold it. Never to be repeated value for money!
15. 2002 Audi A2 tdi. Purchased to keep the miles down on the Caravelle, but it's now got under my skin!
16. 2008 VW T5 Kombi. Bought this year to replace the T4. That's me up to date!

I learned in an orange 1978 Chevette. Then drove a G plate Favorit and a K Favorit Estate; I never officially got to drive the B plate Montego with the gearshift from hell. After moving out I had an '84 Nova Saloon for a while, that was in about... 95? 97 I bought another J plate white Favorit and promptly wrote it off. Fast forward to 99 and I leased an A4, which went back rather quickly.... Then a 1.0 Lupo in 2001 or so and in 2003 I bought the A2. It's been mine since.
We also had a '99 or so yellow A3 with matching leather seats at one point and a brown 307SW - that must have been mid-2003 - and we now run a brown 2015 Fiesta Ecoboost and a 2016 Octy 1.0 TSI. The Fi does all the short stuff, my cars spend way too much time patrolling the motorway to the airport.

There seems to be people with an awful lot of cars they've owned! But then when I look back at my 27 years of driving, there's been a few more than I first realised..

I posed this elsewhere with pictures - everyone like pictures don't they?

1993 Mondeo 1.8GLX - stop gap whilst the ^Puma was having work done

2006 Mondeo ST TDCi - Thought I'd go "mature" and get something comfy. Was a bit dull though.
DSC_4399-1.jpg

2006 Focus ST2 - Went mental. Was an awesome car, and one of the few I regretted selling. Sold it to a good mate though who looked after it well.

2007 Mazda 3 MPS - More power than the above but had zero personality.
Picture1_zps99c4883b.jpg

2005 BMW M3 (sold July 2015) - Bit of a garage queen. Was 100% stone chip free and immaculate. Was scared to drive it! Should have bought a bodywork wreck and enjoyed the 6cyl howl

Current little beast: 2004 Audi A2 TDi - Ain't he lovely! Don't need to tell you guys why he's got under my skin..

Current big beast: 2016 Focus RS. Promised myself a brand new car, might as well make it a good'un.

Then in a strange coincidence, I stumbled across my previous M3 at Silverstone on Sunday so had to get a snap of them both together:

Yeah, that was a fun call to the insurance company!! "A what? That's a bit of a jump.." lol

I was working 30+ miles away but that changed to 6 miles away and car sharing with 3 other blokes so kind of made sense.. Well that's what I tell myself..

Some really interesting lists here. Glad I bumped the thread. There's an earlier link from 2006 to read through as well for more members car ownership. Keep them coming folks - tell us what you've had !

hi David. Why was your black A2 replaced after 1.5 years ? Assuming there were problems ?

It had some electrical fault, most probably in the ECU and the dealer was unable to fix it. The engine stopped occasionally, first when the car was just 5 days old, in the inner lane of the highway while I was overtaking a row of trucks... They tried to fix it and after 1.5 years I got a full replacement. Its also kind of a fix...

Luckily while the car was being serviced they always rented me a car. Usually it was another A2 :)
