Got back in the car yesterday and the outside temp. display read 38 degrees. Immediately I saw it I thought, mmm, careless Audi have put this in a place which will heat up in the sun and sure enough as I got going it decreased to a nice 26 degrees in a few minutes.

Anyone else see the same thing?

Reason I ask is that my A4 when left in the sun does not do this, even if it does it is usually down to it being left on hot concrete or something and it is only a degree or two out.

If you take the bonnet off you will see the sensor just in front of the radiator just behind the grille... it is usually the same spot on all cars...

The Golf has it there too... I do find that when the Golf says 22 degrees the Audi says 24 degrees... so I always subtract 2 degrees when in the Audi...

I always get WILD readings when get into it after it has been standing on the tarmac at work... but never as much as 38!!! and it soon drops back to the real temp when you start moving... It usually gives the wildest readings when there is NO wind, and the car is parked on black tarmac!

Didn't know where it was, thanks. I found it weird also it was that high. The 26 reading when I got home tallied with the temp sensor I have outside the house (I have one of those Oregon Scientific weatherstation clocks with a remote sensor) so I ruled out a bad sensor.

When I got back to the A2 after work it showed 29° and only droped to 27° all the way home.

I think it says in the hand book about the temp could be as much as 2° out (hotter)

Mmm, I'll see what it is tonight as it's parked in full sun in the same space (bonnet facing the sun in the afternoon on black tarmac).

Well, back to normal tonight. Got in the car and it read 28, after a few minutes settled to 26.5 so must have been a gremlin in the system yesterday.

... I think there was NO wind yesterday that could circulate the air around the sensor... today there was a bit of a breeze to cool it down down there...

I think yesterday may have been a lot hotter than advertised, my display was showing 31 (parked nose to the sun). When moving it dropped to 28.5
