Owner at last

So now a proud owner of a 2003 1.4Tdi SE. Collected today, and was apprehensive about the 150 mile return journey but it didn’t miss a beat. Felt sluggish and really needed to push hard to accelerate. Stopped on M4 for a leak and food. Found 4 mats on top of the carpet. Shifted 3 and it flew the rest of the way! Hope any other fixes are as simple.
Jobs to do.... major clean and polish.
Sort stereo. Lights on but no longer plays. Volume knob feels iffy.
Fancy a modern touch screen unit so will be seeking advice at some stage.
Great forum so far. Keep up the advice guys.

Welcome, you've come to the right place. :) Had a similar issue recently, lacking oomph, removed the slipped TT pedal cover. In case you hadn't already read about it, member depronman has a very nicely priced remap for the TDI, it puts a smile on my face daily.

Thanks for the reply and advice. Will certainly look into this. A bit more poke would be welcome coming from 240hp in my Skoda!

I think this must be an amusingly common issue for the RAC.

I spent an informative hour in a lay-by researching failed master clutch cylinders when I worked out that the problem was that the mat had slipped and was jammed against the clutch pedal so it was sticking down. Proper mats with locking pins is the way forward.

How does about 105bhp sound in a car weighing around 1000kg
Work out the power to weight of the Skoda and I bet there is little difference
I absolutely love the remapped tdi75 it is truly bi polar Proper quick from 1800 rpm and Still returns 60mpg
Pm me regarding the remap when you ready
Cheers. Paul

Remaps for a 1.6?

I don’t believe there is much scope for remaps on either petrol engine and the fsi is likely the least of the two petrol engine due to its extra. Complexity

@aainslie I have checked the website of the company that remapped my BMW from 177 bhp to 235 bhp and they can only add 8bhp to a 1.4 petrol so not really worth it.

This is typical of remapping petrol engine - not much benefit
Where as remapping tdi well that is a owl different game as there is much to be gained

To get big benefits add a turbocharger. That is why turbo diesels can be improved. If you look at what can be done with turbocharged petrol engines rather than naturally aspirated, the possibilities are profound.
The turbo provides an excess of air to burn. The more air the more fuel can be burnt.

Yes I fully agree but adding a turbo is a lot for effort and cost that applying a £20 remap to a tdi

Plus if you add a turbo then you may have to upgrade other parts to cope with the extra boost etc, then there is an intercooler, pipework etc.
