Painting my binnacle cover

Morning all,

So today I finally got round to starting the colour change from soul black to twist to finish off and balance the two tone interior.

On a recent visit to get some bumpers for the grey one @A2Steve kindly donated a cover for me to have a go at ‘risk free’.

I’ve gone with grey Simoniz plastic primer and I’m going to try the Car-Rep Vinyl spray though I’m unsure if the colour match will work. I’ll let you know how I get on. More pictures to follow as the day goes on. Unless it rains.....

Erling,

Very interested in this 2 tone adaption you’re going for. Looking forward to pictures once complete.

I remember @A2Steve recolouring the same item a few years ago to red and it looked great.

As you’re not a million miles away; I’m happy to offer you a new/full time of Volico Twist paint if you can replace it over time, no rush though.

Kind regards,

Tom

Hi Tom,

In the event the colour match is poor I’ll 100% take you up on that. Thanks ever so much ??

This is such a simple but effective mod. Jelly has a red binnacle courtesy of Plasticoat to match the red leather interior. Spud has a blue binnacle courtesy of specially mixed paint, to match the blue armrests and other details in a blue, platinum and black interior.

So this evening I added the ‘top coat’ to the primed binnacle cover. Sadly a) I’m not happy with how evenly it went on b) the colour match is way off. That said, given it’s an easy install I might try and give it one more go to get it even and put it in to see how much it bugs me and failing that I’ll be dropping @2work a line for some Volico twist paint.
