Parking Sensors

Has anyone got any experience of getting rear parking sensors fitted? I have bene trying to find a company that will come to my home/office and fit the sensors. So far I have only found Edworthys.co.uk but they only offer black sensors and I'm concerned that they'll look silly against a blue background.

Can anyone recommend any other companies?

I've got mine fitted afterwards by the Audi dealer. It's called a Parkboy, and it can handle three sensor on the front and four on the rear. The sensors are black, but I hardly notice it on a red car. Painted ones would be nicer though.

I've got it for two and a half year and it works fine. Definetly worth the money.

As far as I am aware, there are four options:
- Microwave strip that is concealed underneath the bumper (about £200 DIY fit)
- Numberplate sensor that is neat and well hidden (about £80 DIY fit)
- Flush fitting ultrasonic (in black so would need painting) (£250 professionally fitted)
- Surface fitting ultrasonic (£40 DIY fit)

Not sure though what to go for!!

Has to be painted ones at least-have you seen the Corolla sensors? Four black things stuck in that big rear bumper-I saw them on a light blue Corolla-yuk yuk yuk!

The ones on my Corolla are body colour, not sure how they did it, but the dealer fitted them in the correct colour!

The ones I saw must have been aftermarket, or the dealer didn't bother to paint them.
Have you tried your local Car Stereo dealers-most of them do reverse sensors.
What can the VW dealer do for you?

I've tried two VW dealers and neither of them offer the service...which a little annoying! I've found loads of companies that offer them and that will fit them it's a question of which type should I get (see my post above) and what company can I trust not to b****r it up!

Stuart, I fitted those on the Volvo myself, no problems. I can't remember the firm at the moment, but they weren't cheap, they fitted under the valance with sticky (very)tape. Peter had his retrofitted by the Nissan dealer who recommended that they were not painted, it looks as though they were only pushed into drilled holes in the plastic valance. They are definitely worth having.

Mine are drilled in the rear bumper. They are black but they can be painted. But that was a lot more expensive.
The touran has a black space below the coloured part, why not fit them there ?

Dennis, I looked into that already and it's not possible to fit the sensors to the black plastic strip as it's too low. The sensors ideal position is ~55cm from the ground.

I'm now looking into the numberplate sensor option which is £199 incl fitting. My only queries are whether or not the height of the numberplate will cause an issue as it is about 80cm from the ground on the Touran and I also want to know if it will definitely scan right into the edges of the bumper; I'll contact the company later and find out.

Have a look at: http://www.metasystem.co.uk/index.php/msy_eng_en/content/view/full/211
