Pepperpots

The rpm is nothing to do with it as if your car is remapped that would be different anyway and 195/55 would actually make it more out as although 10mm wider has a smaller depth of sidewall than 185/60 and therefore a smaller rolling circumference.

You need to check your actual speed against gps maybe on your sat nav ?

Morning,

Perhaps I should have given a little more detail in my earlier post as I have indeed checked the instrument cluster speed verses a GPS tracking speed.

With my A2 sat on 185/60/15 Dunlop BluResponse I have observed the following:

@30mph the GPS device is showing 24mph
@60mph the GPS device is showing 55mph
@70mph the GPS device is showing 65mph

The above figures are rough and could well be 1-2 mph out as this is just from observations. It seems I’m travelling safely and shouldn’t get caught out by speed cameras, but it is not helping out calculating my MPG correctly.

I’d happily change them to 195/55 in the future but would first need to see this profile tyre on an A2 with sport suspension.

Has anyone got similar images to that shown above but on sport suspension.

Kind regards,

Tom

Gosh that's a significant speedo over read not under read as i thought.

If you go to a smaller depth ie 195/55 16 of sidewall you would make it even worse.

That really doesn't sound right as i would have expected 185/60 15 to read pretty spot on ?

For comparison my tdi is completely standard in every way, non mapped and running standatd size 185/50 tyres on 16" SE 6 spoke alloys and gps states an actual 67mph when my speedo reads 70mph.

185/60 15 is slightly larger so should read more accurately

Afternoon,

So the setup of running 185/60/15 isn’t that far off from what you’re getting with a standard SE setup.

My GPS device reads 65mph (2mph less than yours but could well be the same) when the cluster is displaying 70mph

It seems that all isn’t that bad as the standard setup doesn’t seem to be spot on anyway. I’d like to be close as possible though.

Has anyone got pictures of 195/55/15 under sport suspension.

Kind regards,

Tom

Yes but you need to go larger to correct it or at least lessen it as i am considering doing when my tyres need replacing, not smaller ?

For clarification my point is 185/60 15 is larger than 185/50 16 so it should be more accurate not less so something else must be the cause of this?

Just trying to help ?

Understood,

I’ll recheck my calculations but certain I have them right after commuting 500 miles each way recently.

There is a possibly that my instrument cluster has been played with as it had a fault on it when I purchased Project OEM.

Guess I’ll need to do a calibration check to see if this is the case. Just need to work out how to do that now.

Kind regards,

Tom

I havent made any notes so I will only rely on my memory but I would say that my 185/60-15 gives me a speedo which reads 2-4km/h more than gps.
I find that rather good.

Morning Edward,

If you have 195/55/15 tyres on Pepperpots, could you add a few pictures please. Head on and side view shots preferably to see how they look along with how much wider they are than the wheels themselves.

I have 185/60/15 Dunlop BluResponse fitted but the speedo reading is out, safely out (2400rpm @ 70mph when it should be 2600rpm) but I’d like to have it reading as best as possible.

My tyres have at least another year of life but when I change them I’d like to have my speedo reading true again, but not at detriment to the look, hope that makes sense.

Kind regards,

Tom

Vanders has beaten me to pictures, I have a MYP gearbox so 2000rpm @ 70mph

Thanks Edward.

Quite excited about having my MYP fitted in the next 2 weeks.
