Male or female?

I was actually thinking about this the other day,

I only know of men on this forum

So are it only men driving the A2?

We don't get too many females writing on the forum but three that spring to mind are Fiona, Hollyz and Heather. Judging by their posts, they are all are extremely knowledgable about their A2's.

Cheers Spike

I think there was a thread about this many years ago and the general answer seemed to be that there are quite a few female A2 owners but they don't do the forum thing - they leave that to the other halfs. Which is exactly how it works in our house. :)
For some reason my wife just can't seem to get the same enthusiasm for chatting about cars - dunno why...

Ditto Rob - you have hit the nail on the head!! My wife loves her A2 to bits and has only once raised the enthusiasm to enter a post on here.

So I only occasionally drive the A2 but am interested in reading, discussing in typical "bloke" fashion!!

Hi Guys,

Same here as well; Wife drives the A2 (and loves it!) but has only put one post on here (in the "who are we" thread; about people, not cars!) I commute in a Turbo quattro, but am happy to read about the A2- 'cos it will be me who fixes it!

I can't be surprised- she won't wash it or check the tyre pressures either, so why would she read about it!

ScotAlan;)

Im feeling sorry for Heather as she is outvoted 30 to 1 ,so i accidently on purpose slipped and voted for female LOL !!!!

Come on Ladies dont be SHY !!!! :)

If the question was if the car is owned by a male or female, then I think the figures would look different..

Thanks Wooly!!! ...
Unfortunately im unable to take my A2 to bits and put it back together like most of you guys (much as id like!), but i do wash it by hand and check the oil and tyre pressures and fill the screenwash!!!!

Definately a bloke thing - bolting bits on, re mapping and tinkering

I've just checked and I am most definitely a female! Like Heather, don't do the attaching of bits - I have a brother who's a mechanic and a 'other half', so as they say, don't have a dog and bark yourself!

I do muck if it is being worked on and quite enjoy tinkering with any bits I am 'allowed' to. We've also got a Land Rover, so always helping stick new bits on that - it's a new roof this weekend, had a slight scrape with a tree!

I started using the forum as I had a particular problem and having used lots of other forums for work, although mainly for software and camera issues, applied the same method - and hey, it worked! Now, can't keep me away.

BTW Xiter, this personal interest in females you refer to..........?

There must be two types of women, the ones that watch Top gear every sunday evening, and the ones that don't. I'm a Top gear person myself. Also, as a student I need to be able to fix my car the cheapest way possible, and that means manual labour ;-) In the past have fixed all kinds of things on my car so am quite handy in the DIY department.

Have stayed a loyal forum member after researching about fitting my nav plus, and lately, been slating audi about those damned ignition coils. Have become quite a pro at changing those now that i've done it so often.

If only there were more women that I could share this DIY view with.

Well, I've seen quite a few females driving A2's but they don't seem to hang out as much on forums which I think it's a pity. The dominant sex on A2OC is no doubt male. I have had discussions with my wife why this is the case.

She has a Mercedes which she loves but when I ask her why she's not on the Mercedes Benz internet forums on her free time she said she likes to keep it in s good condition but doesn't need to know the technology behind it all. Some other words were:

1. "I've got other things to do"
2. "If it breaks you'll fix it"
3. "I rather go out on a walk"
4. "I rather call my sister and my mom"
5. "I rather read a book"
6. "I rather visit friends than talking to strangers on the internet"

Something I noted was that she needs the physical connection between people. Since you can't see, touch or hear the people on forums you have a discussion with, she doesn't want to do it.

Xiter, your wife sounds very wise indeed! Totally agree with all the points, it is just that with point 2, yes indeed, 'he' will be fixing it but I just like to know why it broke and what that bit does!
