Of note plug 3 4 were sat in oil so needed doing!

First day starting the jaipur engine swap!
Usual stuff to start with, missing undertray fixings, bodge bolts etc. One side 10mm undertray bolt missing of course, standard for my cars, never had both bolts 😀😃

Spark plugs out and they're covered in oil with water in.

My theory is:
The scuttle drain pipe is split at top, when you pour water it drips down onto the intake pipe, runs round and drips perfectly and I mean perfectly into the second dipstick tube seen at the back. The orange cap is missing and was out collection.
Could rain really have caused this??

Upon hand turning the engine it makes about half a stroke then it's solid, rock solid both ways.

Ok so now I've undone sump bung, 4 litres of pure water!!! How!!

Was the 2nd dipstick hole just open? It’s supposed to have an orange kind of cap thing on it. Maybe that’s why they capped them off in 2002 on

Indeed cap was missing from day I collected it!! But how long must you sit in the rain to get 4 litres between services?? I guess a year might do it!
Talk about unlucky.

I'll check air filter see it it's wet...eliminate a flood drive through.

Coolant by the way is perfect!!

Just spoken to the owner and they didn't drive through flood, which is good news, it just went bang and stopped.
They had told mechanics about the drip before. This means they were good owners to even notice this.
Fingers crossed from here on in!!

I let previous owner know what has happened, said I'm sorry for their incredible bad luck. I mean wow!!

How did you get the sealant that uniform, not one dribble.

And I always see this when I look at that side of the engine

Will motor on now as quick as i can, strip bits off as much as possible to make lifting it out easier.
Clean it all up, inspect the clutch thickness, then hopefully a nice swap.
Not looking forward to all the stuff crammed at the gearbox end, lots of guff.

The car looks like a dogfish in the first picture. Two whiskers are visible between the top and lower alloy bars, and you've managed to make the vacant headlight space appear like a mascara eye.

its nice you have some shade makes it a pleasure to work on, especially when at times when you get the blazing sun its either blazin hot or breezy cold

I'm am very lucky!!
but I did have ro remove 10 llandi trees to get the car port in there, and shovel 28 tonnes of stones in by hand , so i eventually earnt the joy that is my beloved car port :-)
Sounds like my kind of job.
I love to clean but also love to dig.
If only there was a job out there that combined the two. 😆
Tree felling is also pretty awesome.

Slowly stripping away, seems the watery mayonnaise got into the 3 4 exhaust outlets and also I saw it had clogged the cat completey.

Great progress, great photo, and a great Porsche Edd - a dream for me too.

My mum lives just down the road from you in Walton Bay. I get Steve to send FSI parts they’re ready for pick-up when I’m over for a visit 😉

Best of luck with the rest of the Japier project 👍
