Pink City Final Destination

Some good progress today, can't lie though, I'm nervous about getting it all back together!! 😅

Note the gunk had reached the old manifold inlets via breather pipes i guess. Wont be going back on.

Yummy new seals. I had to transfer the jaipur injectors into the donor manifold as the types were different. Ended up gently crowbar ing the rail out they were that tight but all good back in :-)

Drive shafts after lunch then it's gear linkage carrier and clutch slave off. Then it's ready to remove.

Hit a brick wall of enthusiasm but also come in to research the side gearbox mount, can't work it out.
diesel engie bays are so much simpler!!

Hello,
I doubt this is what you are researching but I wanted to mention something about reassembly.
The two bolts on top that hold the gearbox up removing those sets it free, but be real careful when putting it back together because those bolts are likely to cross thread, they always try it on with me but I'm wise to them now

Perfect info! Chris Warren was popping down anyway and he said why not just finish ot, so we whipped the engine and box out! Job done, stress is over, feels good now :)

The irony of the last piece on show being three real death pipe, the second dipstick!!!

Wow, just wow, petrol is way harder on right side of engine with all the coolant manifold and death pipe etc real mess over there!

Took 4 hours to get it pre built, new clutch in and gearbox on side, before fiddling it in place.
Then a further 2 hours getting a nubbin free which was stuck on arb, then off again to remember to push the small driveshaft into place before fixing mounts! Then off again to free the trapped driveshaft again as the bokts got hooked under the drive cup!

Lots of rookie errors and it was super fiddly to do the triple hose clamping and clutch slave bolts. Jeepers..

Will do some more when my energy comes back, but at least it's bolted back in now!!! No jobs left that I have done before.

Progress so far, not too far to go now really. Lots of clipping back in and pipe wrestling, hunting t25s etc...

Does anyone know if the arrangement of the water pipe and electrics is correct? Maybe a photo of a oem engine bay?

Great photographs @rasA2.

The electrical connectors often only just reach the plugs they are designed to go into. When I refit the loom in this area, I untangle the tangles and dekink the kinks, and try a few combinations before landing on one that provides the least strain on the wires while not rubbing on surrounding components.

The thermostat housing has 3 larger pipes to the rear.
The hoses from the matrix are staggered in height so should naturally fit in the right place.

Left hose from the heater matrix goes on the top thermostat connection.
Right hose goes on the bottom on thermostat connection.
Expansion tank hose in the middle.

Yours matches @rasA2 image.

I've got wiring harness OCD, thought I would share it with you. Pay no attention to it @CrispyEdd the harness in your car looks good.

NOTE:
If you're planning to untangle an old wiring harness it is easier to do when the engine bay is hot.

Thanks Chaps, all done now, im happy with cable, none tight and all seemingly in their place.
The main one was the header tank small pipe which goes so close to the nest of electrical loom wires.

Whole slam panel complete lifted into place and just holding via two top bolts.

I like this part, connecting it all up and seeing the finish line!!

Will give it a little clean off on the front once wires are clipped in and ac hoses re attached

Wahoo!!! She's alive!

Cranked without plugs three times, then it fired up with plugs in first time!!

It ticked while oil warmed up and got to the tappets but then went quiet and now seems very happy indeed.

As expected lots of gubknto burn out the exhaust from the mess before but nonwrror codes no issues at just yet.

Running water in to check for leaks before I drain it and add g13.

So fresh oil, filter, air filter, new clutch kit, ina timing kit and pump. New gaskets everywhere.

And it's my birthday :-)

Phew! Almost back on road. Must order no plates!
