Piston slap and Cobalt Dream Machine, it' not good!

After some thought i've decided to not mess around with the car as it's a daily and my pockets aren't deep enough so if i can appeal to anyones better natures i'm seriously looking for a 1.4 BBY petrol engine with low miles and provenance of it's service history. This is a special car to us and we're looking for an excellent replacement engine. There are a few on eBay but i'd rather not unless one can be found on there with papers to match with a very good service history. Please keep your ears open and let me know if any of you come across anything suitable.

Thanks Mark.

If you find a decent donar with perhaps some accident damage etc perhaps we could but it between us. I could remove the engine for you and ship it up to you and then I'd break the rest of the shell.

Ps I've now got cream false floor brackets and side panels available for you if you still want some?

Thanks Steve, maybe you missed my update in the Cobalt thread where i managed to get 2 genuine false floor side panels( glass down to floor) in twist (so they have the factory cut outs in them). Do you have the false floor itself in twist, i have one here with one of the panels brocken. Do you have a perfect one?

Splitting the cost between us on a potential good donor car will broaden the search and sounds like a very good idea Steve thanks for the very kind offer mate. :)

No floor unfortunately. The offer will very much depend if my garage is empty at the time but it's definitely doable.

Checked out that engine Darren and they couldn't give me the reg to check the mot history, no service records available either. :(

That is a coincidence.

That car seems to have mirror image damage to Bargepower's and the same colour too, what a coincidence!!!

Many thanks for that Andrew, very much appreciated!

I checked the mot history and surprise surprise the cars covered more than the 51k mileage stated. Last mot May 2016 it had covered 82,839 miles!

Ok,i know it's early days but i'm looking at options. Should i not find a good replacement engine with provenance who would you guys recommend to get the engine rebuilt. Are there any preferred specialist that you guys would use? Thanks.

Are there any Audi A2 gurus out there that know a go to place for a new bottom end or a reliable place to buy a rebuilt bottom end to a high standard? Perhaps there is someone out there who bought a new bottom end or a complete engine from a fire sale who no longer needs it? I'm trying my best to keep this car alive where many would have cut their loses and broken it by now. Any help greatly appreciated thanks.

I am no guru. I have had no dealings with a company very local to me, except I have heard them mentioned several times as the local 'go to place' for this kind of work and they have been around a long time. Maybe give them a ring to get some idea of costs but personally I would go down the donor route. I thought you might have noticed post 3 in the other recent similiar thread.

In your shoes I would enquire at local garages and ask who they know/have used.

Thanks for your reply Andy, i'll give that company a ring they certainly have a lot of experience so will try them Monday now. I'm skeptical to ask local garages as most are very average at best that's my experience of where i am.The 3 places i have used have done more damage and told porky pies over the years than good! Yes seriously i'm not joking! Thanks to another member i've since found a superb mechanic who knows all things A2 which is a major relief and whom i feel i could trust. What i'm looking for is a specialist place who deals with all things Vag,they'll have economies of scale and will know these engines inside out and of course their weaknesses and how to engineer them out.One can only hope and pray i find out who these people are?

I don't know if it might worth asking Rob and Marcus at WOM Automotive, I mean they do know an awful lot about these cars anyway. Not certain if they have the facilities to go the whole hog on a full engine rebuild, but I was thinking along similar lines to get a spare engine just in case either of my BHCs explode.
