Poor interior heating

So my 51 plate 1.4 TDI SE (230k) takes about 20mins to warm up the interior. Thats stationary and slightly quicker if driving.

When I turn the ignition only cold air comes out of the vents regardless of how high I set the climate control.

Actually typing this out makes me think that the hot air that eventually does come through is from the engine and maybe my climate isn’t working properly.

Any ideas appreciated as I’m planning to see @timmus soon :)

Thanks
Mo

At that age of A2 you have a webasto Aux heater
Have a read in the recent webasto thread started by datsundrew (I thinks that’s his user name). It is st +130 posts so a long ish read but it explains the criteria for webasto operation and if all are met then check the engine ecu coding is on 00002 and not 00005
The webasto should warm the cabin in a matter of minutes and warm air in around a ½ mile

Ok great. Thanks.

if you have any OBD dongle to give you out some ecu readings ie to Torque App on your mobile - you could check how quick engine temp rises (dashbord needle starts at 60deg) usually if temp reaches say 20deg it should be enough to start warming up interior, thats for start, next thing to check...would be your air circulation flaps - if one which mixes hot/cold air isnt operating..no proper temp control available, is your car fitted with webasto heater? unit mounted under bonnet between brake fluid bottle and air filter if so...needs checking...if you ever in Barrow/ Kendal...let me know

Thats great. It’s been a while since I visited the Lakes :)

so I did bit of test yesterday evening and this morning to see how heating works on my TDi90 with Climate Control set to 21deg Auto,
OBD dongle plugged in and TorquePro App to monitor coolant temp on,
on start temp is about 6deg, engine started and coolant temp going up after few seconds,
in range between 30-35deg (visible on TorquePro app - dash temp needle starts to move from >60deg) Climate Control starts to act
it increses fan speed from 1bar to 4-5 bars and thats after about 2-3minutes from engine start,
as mentioned above happens on TDi90 without webasto,
on A roads daily run for 30miles one way it then holds 88deg sometimes going up to 91 on hill climb.

For reference my tdi 74 amf takes 20 mins on the motorway to warm up properly, even then in sub 10 deg it sometimes never reaches 90 deg ever with heating on! Webasto isnt working I would say in your case....nothing wrong with car.
