Poor running still, teating my hair out

I am getting really fed up with my A2 now, anyway I have a poor running year 2000 1.4 petrol for a while now. I have changed plugs , ignition leads , coil pack and cleaned throttle body. Car still doesn't run right , had it in garage the other day and he says it's got a missfire which I already knew. Engine management light goes on and off, it usually comes back on when doing 60mph on motorway and starts doing the usual stuttering juddering.
I am seriously running out of ideas and am getting sick of spending money now, basically what I am asking is has anyone else had a similar problem or can give me some advice please.

Thanks in advance Adam.

Sorry to hear your problems but have you had it scanned and if so what codes did it have? cheers mike

Not scanned by VAGCOM Mike no, but if Johnmed can scan it for me that would be a great help John. I could bring it to you if your not busy Saturday morning if that is any good for you, and there will be a crate of beer of your choice in it for you cheers Adam

Thanks.

Having saved the scan results, we cleared and re-scanned. ABS, HVAC and engine faults popped back up.

Can anyone more mechanically minded than we have a look and glean anything from the results?

All the best, John.

Check the engine grounding strips attachments, they can cause all kind of weird electrical faults.

Interesting you say that Rolf. Adam mentioned he'd read about earthing issues recently but had not yet had a chance to check this. I'd suggested poor battery, sensors or poor earthing can often throw up a multitude of deferred and somewhat unrelated faults.

similar rubbish engine running and kept saying it was misfiring. was the egr valve. even though it was replaced last year. I also changed coilpacks and plugs. have you changed coil pack?

sits on the left side.

Has anyone tried spraying contact protector on the earthing points after cleaning?
If the battery is not 100% it could be worth dropping into Halfords or somewhere and having a free battery test done. It should give a bit more info.

John

Special thanks to John for doing the scan and thanks for all the info guys. Any other thoughts will be great. First job on the list is to check earthing point behind passenger headlight , does anyone have any photos of the earthing point would be a great help. Then next check battery , then if all fails clean egr valve.... Fingers crossed.

Fingers crossed you get to the bottom of this Adam. Nice to see the forum full of advice and suggestions for you to be getting along with.

Hi everyone just a quick update, yesterday I cleaned with contact cleaner and sanded all the points on the battery connections and reconnected. I also changed a air pipe and put the original coil pack back on , which I never thought was at fault. I also checked the plugs all looked fine and the earth behind the passenger headlight all look good as well. I took it for a spin on the motorway and did 80mph and all was great , no warning lights no nothing. Fingers , toes , legs feet all crossed (you get the jist) that by some f%€king miracle the little s€%t is now cured. I wait with bated breath..........

Nice update Adam. Was wondering how you were getting on.

Fingers crossed the little sh@t behaves itself!
