Power steering failure

Now I’m back home I could do more checks. Vcds shows the fault. Still nothing on the cluster in colour DIS. I then took out the headlight and pressed down on all of the cables and plugs on the pump which felt like they were secure nothing had come out . Key in and started the car all good cleared with VCDS . I’m disappointed that the RAC didn’t press down on all the cables. Lesson here is to get a spare set of tools for the car.View attachment 86628
The J500 fault is what I was expecting to see. If VCDS can read this fault, the diagnostics section of Colour DIS must also be able to.

Cheers,

Tom

The 60 mile drive back would have been better I wouldn’t recommend it and parking is really difficult with out it too. I’m intrigued why colour dis didn’t tell me there was a problem. Just a beep from the dash.
I can absolutely understand that. I’d be the same

Fantastic that it is working. There is a chance that there is either a bad connection or corroded connection on the pump / wiring. Carefully check and clean as needed. The power steering takes a lot of power so any issue in the wiring does not help. Much nicer spending 20 minutes checking the electrics than the time to remove and replace the pump.
Interesting the RAC told you it was safe to drive rather than recover the car for you.

Which is exactly what I said in post #4

I thought I’d be recovered as well as I have full coverage with RAC . I had to wait a day for them to come out as they were busy . I replaced the bracket that holds the pump about a year ago as it had been bent from what appears to be a pressed wishbone failing . Next job time pending is to check the connections.

User error with stalk I needed to select the module .I can select each module for codes but nothing appeared as a message about the steering apart from a beep on key on 2nd click
