Pro Boost FSI remap

I don't think the ProBoost map actually "cures" anything.

Rather it disables the original FSI functionality in order to provide a "work around" when that functionality fails, due, most likely, to low octane fuel, and poor maintenance by previous owners.

A regularly serviced FSI, with a clear scan, run on 98/99 octane fuel, and high quality engine oil, doesn't need ProBoost, and will not benefit from it.

For a poorly FSI, ProBoost is a good, economical alternative to what may well be an expensive repair.

I am on the proboost list so await patiently

Are you sure?
I have a 70.000km FSI. Does it mean that only 98 gasoline is good? Is there any maintenance list for FSI engines on this forum?

The FSI engine is not compatible, (says Audi, no less), with the 10% alcohol in 95 octane, E10. 98/99 octane is 5% alcohol, E5.
With the OEM map, it require 98/99 as it is a high compression, high thermal efficiency engine.

Ok. Thanks, i didn't know that. From now on i will just use e5 gasoline. But here in spain is the 95 octane gasoline the one that is E5, and the 98 octane gasoline is e10.
So i will have to run on 95 octane gasoline.
I will consider contact the proboost guys to remap.
Does anybody knows how long do they take?
Regards!

Now i am very confused.

I will research more for spanish owners.

Thanks for the info

I expect the general consensus you will get from the guys who really know the details, is to use the 98 octane, as that is what is recommended by Audi.
And if you can find it without the ethanol, even better.

It would be really helpful if Audi/VAG would tell us what parts in an FSI engine are incompatible with 10% alcohol ...

Proboost update
I purchased one of the latest batch from A2 Steve and installed it last month as I had the intake manifold fault 17439 on my FSI. EML now off car passed MOT so got another 12 months motoring. I only use car for relatively short trips so MPG 'Urban' is now around 35mpg but I am quite heavy on the accelerator. Recommended workaround?

Right owe, the next batch of ECU's will be heading to Germany at the end of March with a return date in May.

The following members are on the wanted list and in this order

@Ads - purchase outright
@JavaGreen - purchase outright
@Jellybean - supplying own unit to be mapped
@A2Dreamer - purchase outright
@dmw300 - supplying own unit to be mapped

I should within the next couple of weeks have 3 units here to send off, along with the 2 supplied by others.

If anyone else would like to be added from this point on, you will need to send me an FSI unit prior to the second week in march. I can then send that unit off to Germany for you.

Thanks

Thanks Steve, most appreciated.
I will pay £150 up front early March or do you require full amount up front?
Cheers,
Paul

Just a quick update, I really am struggling to get hold of units to send out to Germany, or at least not at a economically viable price.

With such a small batch going I’ll be doing this purely for the benefit of the club as it will be making a negligible profit.

The outstanding list is as follows:

@Ads - I have a unit for you as first in the list. Please can you confirm you still want it?

@JavaGreen - I have a unit to send for you.

@Jellybean - supplying own unit to be mapped

@A2Dreamer - I don’t have an ECU to send off for you I’m afraid. If you want to send a unit to me in the next week or so I can get it sent off to Germany for you.

@dmw300 - you mentioned supplying your own unit to be mapped. If you still want to go ahead with this please can you send the unit you’ve purchased now.

If anyone else wants an ECU mapped, please get in touch with me and we can discuss how you can supply me with the unit.

Thanks all

Steve

Oh no!!

I hadn't realised this was an issue...

I haven't got one to send unfortunately - if I take the one from the car for a few weeks it'll be immobile, and the Mrs will be a bit cross at best ?

Is the 1.6 FSI golf ECU any use?

VW Golf 1.6 FSI 03-07 ECU 03C906056DP 03C 906 056 DP 0 261 S02 359 0261S02359

There is an A2 unit on Ebay at the moment, but it's £99, and it looks as though it's been driven over a couple of times!!

Anyone out there with a spare ECU they don't need?

Cheers

Pete

Hi Pete

Yes unfortunately there is an issue with getting the blank units to map. The last batch of buyers decided to forfeit the surcharge on their old units to keep them as a spare incase they want to sell the car in the future and keep the mapped ecu.

It needs to be an A2 ecu as far as I’m aware and yes as you can see, the ones on eBay are overpriced and not in the best of condition.

Hi Steve - I've got my old one - PM Sent

Pro Boost FSI remap, first impression.

My ECU is back from remap so I took it for a short drive.

The reason for my remap was to cure a faulty NOX sensor. Beside that my engine worked flawlessly, as good as a 17 year old 1.6 Fsi can be.

After starting the engine the engine management light goes out, fine! During the drive I could not notice any difference compared to before the remap. I would suspect that any difference in behaviour would be in the range where the engine in the past where running stratified combustion, low to moderate load below 3000 rpm.
I will take a longer test drive tomorrow and also see what happens when I disconnect the NOx control module.
I also scanned the ECU for errors, but it was clean.

So far I am compleately satisfied.
2 years later and my Fsi engine continues to work flawlessly!
