Problem with fitted mats removal

My car has the fitted carpet mats. The mats have a hole surrounded by plastic. The hole fits over a plastic 'post' which protrudes from the floor, this 'post clip' is fixed to another plastic clip which is fastened to the bodywork under the carpet. When trying to remove the mats the mat doesn't pull away from the post, instead the clip with the post unfastens from the clip attached to the floor, which in turn unclips and ends up under the carpet so the mat won't clip back in and it ends up sliding under the pedals. Anyone have a similar problem? Anyione any ideas how to unclip the mat from the post successfully?

I had a similar problem. I lost the bit of the clip that is supposed to be attached to the floorpan as it went under the footwell carpet, and the 'post' was left stuck in the hole in the mat!

I found the only thing to do was to pull up the carpet and retrieve the clip, pull the post out of the mat, reassemble the post and clip, and attach this back to the floorpan. I then replaced the footwell carpet and replaced the mat. A little silicone lubricant between the floor-post and mat-ring may prevent the two from getting too attached again?!

...also try levering the mats free from the posts with a screwdriver, starting with the fixings at the back. I dont think the post clips attach to the floor very well, and levering them free may help to avoid pulling the whole clip assembly away from the floorpan. This worked OK for me.
